Totally agree, this is looking bleeding marvellous [8D][8D][8D]

if your going to be using the weber/solex carb mounting you may be better off using the later mk3+4 vogue/superminx exhaust manifold ...

Thanks for that tip - shame I didn't realise the 4 branch doesn't fit as I've sourced a good 'un :( Has anybody got one of these other manifolds for sale (or a pic so I know what I'm looking for :I)

... also the other problem you'll find is that the carb may sit 2 high for the engine lid to shut i was just going to slightly elongate the sides and raise the lid to compensate for this. if i remember ill take some pics next time im in the shed of the whole thing bolted together as the engines on a pallet to show you.

Sadly we've got the middle seat so raising the lid is likely to be problematic for us, http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=22 produce a low profile plenum for this carb - but not sure this helps much. I've mocked up the setup using the head, rocker, manifold and a 'junk' 32/36 - it all comes heightwise to around the height of the oil filler and I know others have needed to shorten this to fit.

Thinking laterally, can somebody advise whether using the Holbay with the Commer sump fitted whether there is any capacity for modifying the engine mounts and so it all fits lower in the engine bay and gains space that way ?

Cheers

No it cant be done. We also had problems with the linkage on the carb even using the manifold rich said, it fouls where the engine lid joins the side plate. You would have to put a box section on the side of the lid simlar to what tim did on fontain with the pinto lump in it.Also good luck in finding one of those cast exhaust manifolds there are very rare to come by.Best bet is have a manifold flange laser cut from a gasket for the engine and make your own manifold.;)

the van now has an exhaust at long last. installed by AA silencers in stafford who were excellent. to say its a tight fit is an understatement may yet have to move the handbrake mounting but only useage will tell me that. its a 1.25 inch 4 branch into a single 2 inch side exit by the passenger rear wheel whith the silencer mounted behind the lower sill so u only see the exit pipe v.clever. gotta pick up the recond carbs with there shortend trumpets later tonight then im going to bolt it all together ready for richie to get running after his holiday.:D will post pics up tommorow.

if you need an exhaust aa silencers no is 01785 213500 owners called mark. they really are good.

Dont forget to take it all off first and remove the masking tape off the ports!!! as its still on!
and the handbrake cable, well if you leave it i will, scolop it around the cable, and in the engine bay it just touches the top of the chassis rail so we may scolope that just a tad so it doesnt knock.
But to be honest it looks a blinking work of art to me,and who else has got 40's[^]

c u soon

Richie

p.s dont forget to wax and wax him [8D]
but seal the drivers door with masking tape as the inside needs to be sealed and kept dry until ;)

Richie? are you ok/ talking away to yourself there:D

This is all very exciting but you know what we really want....
