Oo sounds interesting! I had a look through some pics and i think i saw the one you mean on a blue commer, it does look cool, how is it secured to the roof? as it looked like it wasn't secured to the gutters. How much do you charge for one like that and can you make them any bigger if need be? Cheers!!

its drilled through the roof and bolted on permanent. can make any size you want. cost about £75 :)

i can, but its alot more hassle for me unless you can source some suitable type clamps to do it :)

Ah cool, i think ill be able to find some perfect clamps as ive alot of freinds in the vw scene and all their roof racks mount to gutters. Ill have a hunt and let you know and send you some pics of them once i find them to see if you think they are suitable. Also are you able to curve the edges of the roof rack, by that i mean if you look at the van head on, instead if it mounting to the gutters with the frame in a right angle could it be possible to give it a gentle curve just before it mounts the gutters? I understand this is more work than the one in the Fontaine but im willing to pay more if need be. Cheers [8D]

So you must have checked out whether darkside 2 bay roof rack fit or can be adapted to fit? I am looking for one myself and was going to look into the options of doing this, I think the roof on a vw is narrower I was going to try and extend it somehow this is obvously not an option?!

Hey igman, i haven't even bothered trying to fit one as yes the commer is wider. Extending it could work i supose what do you think commeracer? Here is a link to a cheapish nice one ive found for a vw type 25, could this be extended by yourself possibly?

A VW Splittie one probably couldn't be streched to fit, a Bay one maybe, but a T25.... that looks promising. You could probably heat the tube ends red hot and pull them out by hand; never tried mind. And you'd need to do a repaint, so a bit of hassle.

That T25 rack looks perfect does'nt it?, the right shape and style. I wonder how much longer a Commer roof is compared to a VW. I wonder if some sucker feet could be attached to the end of the frame (I've seen them for sale somewhere), then some sort of a clamp attached from the metal crossmember to the gutter?.(unless Tim goes into full production! : )

Done a bit of research and discovered that the Type 25 is two and a half inches wider than the bay window Type 2. Of course this is only any use if you know how wide the Type 2 is!

I'd say narrow the commer.... might be easier ..

I saw some of these roofracks in the flesh the other weekend (at the Belladrum festival) and they look really good. Very solid and well made. They have modern fixings which might look a little out of place though.

The original westfalia darkside roofracks are made of some kind of allow which slowly explodes and falls apart when it is weathered.
