Progress

Your van is worth all the work needed though Martin!...it wouldnt be right to do a quick fix on the detector van!...:D

Got some more NEW panels today, inc n/s inner front panel, side door for the PO van and a new back door.:p
Also had the Hot rod tuned up, picking it up tomorrow, so will report back [8D]

I can't believe how clean you've managed to get the metal [:0]brilliant job, you're thorough I'll give you that. Was it the Nitromoors and wire brush routine again ?
By the way 'May the 4th be with you' (I had to get it in somewhere :D)

hi there guys i also got some new panels today and lots of them, only thing is, mart beat me there and got first pickings ( the swine,) only joking mart ,ha ha im chuffed to bits with what i got but you will still have to lend me that other side of the inner front valance panel to match my half mart for the sake of others in the future.:p:D[}:)]

Yes really Nitromoors should be sponsering me by now!..lol..

I use nitromoors, then 'scotchbrite' it, the stuff that looks like a pan scrubber..i shall use the sander on it though before i paint it.

Gonna be so glad to get the seats back in!:)

Hi Paul, about your question on new ID plates. They must be available, check out any concourse ride and you won't find a grotty plate. I can remember seeing an advert for replacement VIN plates for Triumphs somewhere, probably the Sports Six Club magazine, but I'm not sure. I can remember the phrase 'with the correct reverse stamping'being used but these are obviously a different style, helpful aren't I :I

Well got a little bit more done now, the cab floors been primed and painted, and so too the engine compartment tinware.

Ive now gotten to work on the front end, i spent ages removing the kilo's of bodyfiller[V]..theres a few holes.Ive decided to go for a 'mild' custom look with the modified grill, and ive also modified the bumper mounts as so the bumper is flush to the front panel.

Underneath i have had to weld in 2 very small repair sections on the chassis, and im ready to crawl underneath now and paint the whole lot, yes sure thats gonna be a barrel of fun isnt it!![V]:D.
Ive dropped the original water tank, the cradle was knackered, i cant believe its bigger than the damn fuel tank.Ive also another fuel tank painted up ready to fit as mine is split and leaks.
I shall add a smaller water tank inside the van.
After reading about Chris's van i have brought a split charging system for mine.
Thinking now how to refit the heater to the front panel.

JUst need to find a new headlamp and mirror housing now and shoudnt be long before i can take her out![^][^]

Hi Paul, I've just been comparing the Commer sealed beam unit with one from a Mini and they look very similar. The only difference I can see is that on the Mini unit there is a clear patch on the reflector for the side light to shine through, this could easily be covered up. You can also get a halogen conversion kit which give out a brilliant white light rather than the dull glow from the originals [8D] Might be worth checking if you're stuck.

hi paul,i have halogen h4 conversion on my riley 1.5 the playgirl mini has, also tim's mini pick-up,absolute must have [}:)]before was like being a bit blind, got them off ebay p700 were around 50.00 pair (riley!)the ordinary ones 25-30 pound pair, will probably get tim to fit "ran" with a spare set i have :D you know she's worth it.

Paul here`s a site you may be interested in for headlights. http://www.classic-car-accessories.co.uk/acatalog/Classic_car_parts_LIGHTS_5.html?gclid=CObmjpu2i4wCFQfnlAoduw7b6Q I bought some off Ebay a while back, my originals were sealed beam units, so i googled for some replacement 7inch classic headlights and found a local guy selling them from a kit car he had made up. Didn`t suit his caterham 7 lookalike. The good thing about these is i only have to replace the bulbs when they blow, and not the whole expensive unit.

Hi,
I thought the Headlights were both blown on my PB. I went to our local Bennetts Auto Spares shop and bought two. About £7 each and in stock as a regular item. I suspect they fitted loads of vehicles.
I ended up finding it was the bullet connectors beneath the dash that were not making contact and the bulbs were fine.
I do not think the headlamp units are anything particularly special.

Nice work on the painting.:)

Rob

Got one of Ebay now :D

Cheers Rob, the paints looking ok, my budgets veeery tight now so im having to make do.Ive spent about 400 on her now(i think anyway but might be a bit more, i have all the reciepts somewhere).
