PEGGY

Cool - good luck[8D]

Well, Peggy is definitely running very rich. She takes ages to warm up and then only just off the bottom of the gauge. Once warm she goes along quite nicely though, should be even better once she gets a good service and tune up. En route to the MOT the brakes seemed OK. Unfortunately the indicators decided to pack up!

Anyway, got to the garage and explained to the tester about the indicators and the front wheel handbrake. He went through the test and commented on the total lack of rot underneath - good news and confirms what John (previous owner) told me. At the end Peggy and I were presented with one of these:

A few advisories but nothing that can't be done during a good service. The indicators? Peggy initially failed on them but then they started working again enough to get the pass then failed again afterwards! Another thing to sort during the service.

The main thing is SHE PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!! And SHE'S SOLID UNDERNEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the good wishes must have clinched it - Thanks guys and gals!

Edit: She also now has a tax disc!

I've got a Highwayman!!!

That's brilliant[8D] A bit of winter camping in the pipeline?:)
probably the best time to get an MOT - you've got all year now to enjoy it without the hassle of sorting the test out in the middle of the camping season. That's the reason I'm taking my time:I

No camping yet! Need to sort out the various little issues first. Maybe in the Spring.

Hi Baz, great news on the mot, i didnt think it would take much. A bit of cosmetic tidying and you have a great van ( I will have another eventually)

All the best
John

Your loss is definitely Bazz's gain John:I Such a pity you had to let Peggy go but I guess this lets you know what you will miss. Come back soon with another van - come back soon anyway[8)]

Been a while since I've done anything with Peggy due to weather and work. But I have this week off and the weather was good today. So I decided to have a look at the indicators.

The problems seemed to occur when the hazard light switch was used- no hazards and then no more indicators. I popped the connector off the back of the hazard switch and it all looked OK. I put it back on the switch and tried the indicators. They worked! I then tried the hazard switch - no hazards and the indicators stopped working again. I removed the connector again then replaced it - indicators working again!!!!!! Did this a couple of times and the result was the same each time. Any ideas?

I also noticed that when the indicators were switched on the hazard tell-tale light flashed once then stayed off.

Weird eh?

I also fitted the steering column shroud but it kept shorting out the horn! Some judicious use of insulating tape seems to have cured that. Anyone know the spec of the little screws that hold the two halves of the shroud together? I'm missing one.

Found more damp in the side panel behind the passenger seat, similar to the driver's side. I'll have to try to seal the roof seams before next winter.

Fitted a known good leisure battery in place of the one she came with (this is now trickle charging to see what it's like). Checked the charging system for the leisure battery and all is good. The water pump for the water tank works (electric) but with little/no water in the tank I don't yet know how well.

Going to look for a new washer reservoir/pump unit as the one fitted sucks - that is, it doesn't!

Have also looked at some of the wiring under the dash - ooer! Lots to do when the weather really improves. Also need a Hi-Fi (I removed the bolt on ariel base that was fixed to the n/s mirrors - may go with a windscreen type ariel instead.

Off to eBay! Back soon.

Today I have spent a few minutes removing some of the aluminium tape from the edge of the peak to reveal lots of crusty brown stuff! So I did the only thing you can in such circumstances - I covered it up with military grade gaffer tape. While I was at it I also used the gaffer tape on the roof/side sections behind the cab where the damp appears to be getting in. This will have to do for the forseeable as my priorities are:
1. Garage
2. Madge
3. LNK
4. Peggy

I think I'll wait for the weather to warm up a bit, that way it should flow into all the nooks and crannies better. I should be able to bring her to you anyway then we can get her up on the ramp?

Ordered an aerial yesterday and watching a couple of Hi-Fis on eBay.

Won a 10 disc CD/radio on eBay. It's identical to the one I have in LNK and inc postage will cost me about £25. I now have an aerial that sticks to the inside of the windscreen so no outside aerial to mess with Peggy's supreme aerodynamics! Peggy has some speakers fitted but I'm not sure if they'll be man enough so I may have to replace those.
I've also now got a new washer bottle and pump to try out in her. All jobs for Sunday if I'm not working.
