Popped out this morning to fit the banjo to the new (Peykan/Hunter) master cylinder. Looked like it was going to be a quick 5 minute job - I should have known better!
The bloody banjo bolt won't fit! It feels like it's too big, it goes into the hole OK but when it meets the start of the female thread it won't go any further or even try to engage the thread. So, to try to identify the I tried a couple of other UNF bolts to se if they would do up - no joy.
I'm now thinking that being made for the Peykan the thread may be metric? Being an Rootes fan I have no metric bolts to hand! Tried ringing Speedy Spares (who supplied it a few years ago) but they're shut today.
So, off to Halfords for a box of metric bolts to see if I can identify it. Really dont want to have to take the m/c off again!

Right, looks like I got it all wrong, well - mostly wrong. The standard Commer banjo bolt is too small. Because of the location of the m/c I couldn't see into the opening where the banjo goes, now I know the thread starts straight away so all the bolts I've tried so far up to 3/8" and M10 are too small. No time now as have to get ready for work but I'll acquire some larger bolts and try them.

I know Tim, I certainly won't be forcing anything in there. Just need to ID the thread, hopefully without removing the m/c again! I'll ask Speedy's tomorrow (after I've been to the dentist! )

Right, I've been thinking about this some more. If the original banjo bolt is too small for the 'Peykan' m/c then it's likely that a bolt the right size will be too big for the original banjo itself. I don't really want to start chopping bits off the plastic pipe to fit a new banjo etc so I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get the original m/c re-furbed. So, one afternoon next week I'll take the 'Peykan' one off, put the push-rod with the original m/c and send it all off for re-furb (with stainless steel sleeve). They quote a turn-around of 7 working days which should be fine for WCW.

Not sure about that, though achieved a lot today, including remove and replacing the thermostat housing on the MGF - and replacing the rubber seals on it so that it doesn't leak water.... That was a job and a half in itself as access isn't great and ended up having to remove the exhaust to do it....
Got the m/c off this afternoon. Quite easy this time except for the spring retaining ring thing - that really is a pain in the 'arris!St Edmunds that does the re-furbs re method of payment etc and will hopefully send it off in the next day or so.

Well, They either don't have much on or they're very fast workers. I posted the m/c off on Tuesday and it's ready. It'll be posted out on Monday. One minor issue though: The price quoted in our email conversations was a tad under £75 all inc of p+p+VAT. The message I got was that the total was £115! A quick phone call and it appears I was erroneously quoted the trade price. Fair play to them though, no argument they stuck by the quoted price.
I'd happily use them again provided the price is confirmed and competitive. Past Parts of Bury St Edmunds.

I've used them in the past and have been more than satisfied. Obviously I don't have p&p as they are in Bury.
