its not fair on Tramps otherwise...
maybe i'll just download a few things into the nooks of my mums house whilst i'm in brighton....[}:)]
it'll be like having a whole new wardrobe every time i visit...[8D]

it;s now the next day, and the twinkling of yesterday's anxiety has been forgotten, only the good memories of trampers adventures remain...
its a love affair thats no longer good for me, but i'm addicted to believing it will go back to the good old days...

the continual process of new symptoms, diagnosis and next surgery...
the joys of a love affair with a commer...
sounds like a chapter heading for travels with tramper...:)

i'll keep ya up to date. i'll prob start by paying alot of cash at a local mechanics to begin a process of trail and error...:(
but first i'm gonna forget about it for a few days and sun myself in Spain at WOMAD...:D:D:D
 
Glad you got home ok,stick with tramper it is an interesting vehicle with a few problems, but it got you there in the end. Good luck with it

If you're in Brighton then you're not far from the ever wonderful speedy spares - distributors, rotor arms, flame traps etc not expensive along with other sundries which may help - and if you and Tramper there in person you might be able to get some advice as well - they are always really helpful and knowledgeable on the phone.

Thinking back, I had a similar problem with my old golf. Basically in neutral the engine would run and rev fine, but in 4th or 5th gear it would lose all power, and barely be able to accelerate. I changed the sparks, leads, rotor arm and distributor, and one of those things solved the problem completely.

don't mention golfs, mine would run beautifully for 15 miles then pack up, let it cool down and it would run well for another 15 - the more it had done to it the less distance it would cover, I sold it to some surfers who wanted it to go 6 miles to the beach, surf and then come home again.

It did have a strange breather pipe arrangement which was supposed to give trouble on golfs.

hi peeps if you're ever in trouble in my neck of the woods give me a shout if i can help i will . mechanical or need bits glueing back on coz of metal weevil or just good old butchery ( modifications ) the middles expertly covered by commerracer & others & if i step on any bodys toes my end give me a shout and i will take this of .. but if i can make my hobbie pay 4 its self & help out in the mean time location somerset 07727689333

I had a similar problem with an old Renault 6 many years ago on the way back from Cornwall. The car got slower and slower, but being young I didn't stop. When I got home the inlet manifold was glowing red. Turned out the heel on the points had been wearing down closing the points gap. A quick adjustment and a spot of grease on the cam and all was ok (until the floor fell out). [:0]
 
So glad you made it home safely Nancy, We were charting your progress all evening hoping and praying you would make it OK. It's so frustrating sitting hundreds of miles away and only being able to offer words but by the sound of it the words from every one helped you through. I just get a nagging feeling that there is something so simple we missed that if sorted at the time could have made your journey so much better, but hey, you survived to chug another day :) Enjoy the sunshine [8D].

heeeellooooo.....

I thought it was about time I updated you on trampers diagnosis...

I've found myself a fab local Brighton mechanic, i'm a little confused as to why its taken me till now to meet him..?

He quickly ruled out electrical fault and tank vacum, and went on to clean the fuel system, where he found such an impressive amount of gunk in the filter that he took a photo...
I will share this with you once i get a copy..!!!!
so fingers crossed an easy diagonosis and simply treated problem...?[?] [^]

so, a test drive to headcorn at the weekend, which will be another painful and anxious journey due to the next ailment; a dodgy braking system..!!!!! hoorah for elderly failings..!!!!!
its not too bad, as long as I stay consiously aware of the need to pump for any pedal pressure...!!![:0]

hope to see some of you in headcorn, i'll be over for a spot of classic viewing and boot fair bargaining[}:)], as long as I don't find myself to absorbed with the festival to be able to exit the hippy bubble...:D

well sorted! took me a year and a half to solve the "problem" of a blocked filter... must've saved a hell of a lot of fuel in that time (just didn't go very fast)!
 
lol, the infamous gunk in the filter(literally full of what looked like marmalade), my van suffered the same on the A35 on the way to Brighton last year.No fun stalling on big roundabouts at all.But still an adventure anyway.Glad your vans sorted now! :D
 
Fabulous, had hoped it would be something simple - that's great news. Go steady on the brake thing then - hope you get the chance to enjoy the trip to Headcorn, sounds like a couple of commers going - can't wait to see pics of the day[8D]
