My Ride Needing A Makeover

Hazel is 27 - I'm her Dad -My Dad bought (1972) Clarabel in 1979 and lived to the fine old age of 81- The family have owned her since the 1970's -We are now on the fourth generation of tinkering with points - Thomas aged 4 helped me on Saturday - he is my Grandson at Primary School and I am between my Bus Pass and Pension. I will make sure I add 'Hazels Dad' when I reply next time!

'Courage beyond the call of duty': Village flooded - Community centre closed -school kitchen awash and Clarabel has just left in a storm for a Steam fair at Helmsley N Yorks with Matt at the wheel Hazel as navigator and Thomas as chief mechanic. (Evie may is joining them tomorrow -just in case) latest news - passing through York at the moment and running well.

Clarabel was running lean and popping last week -running sweet now after cleaning out the webber and replacing fuel filters and jets- silt everywhere was reading 0.045 on a co2 probe now back upto to 3 ish. Garage just re-routed fuel line round in front of radiator and I have insulated with pipe insulation and reflective plumbers tape so hopefully there won't be any vapour lock. Whilst in garage a specialist Auto -electrician (who is also a moggie and a caravan owner) spent 2-3 hours diagnosing overheating on the coil -not comming from block and heats up off load -ie with fridge off. After hours on the net he thinks our standard 12v unipart coils may be 'multi purpose' ie can be used as 12v and/or balast resistor. He used to work in a Lucas garage and has just sourced a genuine lucas replacement. Hope to fit next week then switch the fridge on! Fingers crossed -will keep you informed. Clarabel Joined everyone at Commerland on Sunday afternoon - Great to see everyone again.
The coil saga continues - blew up another one (quite literally) just 3 miles short of the meet. Misfiring a little so opened up the engine compartment to see the coil exploded (expanded) all across the engine compartment. Fitted a spare, but have now fitted a Lucas sports coil underneath my seat (Thanks Martin)where it should keep nice and cool. -Good tip from the Guru to leave the other coil in position as a spare - have marked the *ve (white) connection with tippex so that I can swap them accross in the dark if necessary! Off to the Lakes tomorrow -looking forward to the break but don't like the look of the weather warning -rain and wind-Looks like the meet had all of the good weather! I do hope that you have solved the problem with the coil. The one you were carrying around at the meet looked a bit of a mess.
 
Having a lovely time in Clarabel we decided to go away for the bank holiday weekend and we are in a lovely campsite called Spen House in Minskip near Knaresbrough.
Thomas and Evie are having a brilliant time and Evie loves chasing the chickens around the campsite.
We have had lots of people coming over and admiring her its really nice to share your story with other people.
