Thanks for the welcome, havn't got it home yet so dont know what it needs. It has some spare panels in the back but the body seems quite solid, the interior is painted pink (not my taste) so will be doing something with that, wifey wants to do a Cath kidston interior (who ever that is!!!!). It does run, does anybody know how the overdrive should work ? .

Well i dont know if its got overdrive (what ever it is) but there is a chrome stick on the side of the steering column with overdrive on it. Hopefully getting it home soon. Is it worth saving interior or ripping it out and starting again. I'm rather handy with wood so can make new cabinets to fit in it. Sorry about all the questions but cant wait to start on it.

Overdrive is brilliant, basically it gives you a six speed box[^]. It should just work on 3rd and 4th giving you a ratio half way between 3rd and top and a very useful extra gear above 4th. With the ignition on select top and flick the OD switch - you should hear a click from underneath as the solenoid engages OD.
Keep the original interior if you possibly can, it would be a real shame to scrap it[V] - it all ads to the enjoyment of these vans.

Thanks Panky, Still got the mini (its a 1972 morris 850) but the gtm has gone to a new home some time ago. I had a commer some 20 years ago and liked it. I spotted this one when i was out in my landy doing a bit of green laning one evening, went back the next day to look at it but the owner wanted too much for it. That was about a year ago, then my freind gave me a call and told me that it was on ebay but by the time i looked it had ended with no bids but a contact no so i txt to see if the same man had it and hay presto it was him, so i went back out and bought it. I called it fate it must have been waiting for me lol. What type of wheels fit on these as i want a nice set of wheels with white wall tyres, keeping it blue as i like the colour.

does anybody know the owner of the red and cream one in the photos on site reg no GJO 695N, i saw this one on the a47 near peterborough a couple of weeks ago,( i was the guy in the blue van taking a pic and waving at you).

Hi and welcome from us as well, Kath Kidson interior would be cool... keep the wood, but maybe not pink!!!:D

Not sure whether John and Claire will keep it though :p

Thanks to all for your warm welcome, got "the old gel" or "mini wini" (not decided on name yet)home today, cant wait to get started on it. It runs and drives but not pressed brake pedal yet. i think 4 new tyres and its ready for an m.o.t. (i wish). Does anybody know what nice wheels will fit.

Hi and welcome! I love the look of the van - well, not so much the inside but the outside. It's a nice colour and the weathered look quite suits her!

As for wheels - best bet is to search the forum, but there is not many. Mainly Rover P5/P6 Roystyles or rover SD1 alloys will fit (off the top of my head) Early Jeep alloys will too, but pre 1985 or thereabouts.

We have Daimler alloys on ours and Admin has Jag alloys - but they need a bit of machining to fit.

its nice to see you on here and nice to see better pics of the van the ones on ebay didn't do it credit, it looks like you and me are at the new boy stage mine is the wanderer in east Yorkshire I hope you are as lucky on the MOT front as I was 1 new wiper rubbers 2 secure battry 3 clean washer jets it then failed on a brake in balance but £70 later I have a full MOT and its brill way better than any vw

oh and on the wheel thing if yours are 14inch wheels and you are getting aloys Im looking for some 14 inch metal rims, mine are 15 inch, im a tin rim fan with hub caps and with smaller tyres on its a inexpence way of lowering it abit well thats what I think anyway lol
