My new ride

Thanks for the kind works everybody :)

Unfortunately, to add salt to my wounds, my turbo on my saab decided it didnt like me anymore and the thrust bearings are well and truly gone. The commers going to be very much set back now! Luckily i had literally just gone and bought a new socket set and an angle grinder so i was able to remove the bugger! The search for a turbo isnt going so great either...argh!

is a saab dealers near me 2stroke2turbo give them a shout

Dealers want £680 for a new turbo, cant seem to get one new for much less than that anywhere else either! Im on an extremely tight budget right now, so its either secondhand or nothing and leave the car in the workshop for a few months til i have money :( i hate being a student

I'm sorry to hear of your problems Paul. Normally I'm so laid back you could carry me home in a bucket but if I caught someone stealing my stuff I don't know what I would do [V]

Well, i phoned up lots of places, secondhand was impossible without waiting and refurbs were £100 less than brand new. I decided to just say sod it and buy a new one @ £580 inc vat and delivery. Some refurb places said they had a 40% failure rate... why are they even bothering!

Got some police dude coming round soon to look at my workshop and how i can improve security. Might have to use the commer to block the door off!

I recommend cctv if it has happened more than once, nothing like a mug shot you then know who's head to kick in [:0]
I had mine cos local scumbags were blaming my son for everything they were getting up to even when he hadn't left his bedroom let alone the house.1 lad prosecuted after entering our garden & punching him straight in the face all recorded never had a problem after that.

My mate's bike got nicked from the train station; the police have a lovely shot of the chap picking his lock for about ten minutes, face everything! However the answer was then "we don't know who he is though"

I am going to look into cctv once my insurance money comes through. I have been beefing up the doors today with steel, and tomorrow i will be putting up window bars :) found a load of rod and inch box to use! Unfortunately my saab keeps absolutely ruining everything financially, so im going to end up with less tools than i hoped as to repair the saab.

Moral of the saab story...don't buy GM saabs, they suck!

love this commer!!quote:

Wow, its been a fair while since i did anything to the Commer :I

Same old story, lack of time and money have hindered me, that Saab aint cheap to maintain and run!

Today i finally had a chance to start sorting one of the rear doors (the other side is very good somehow...) havent quite finished as im awaiting some weld through primer. I know you guys like photos of the gory bits so here goes...

Not the worst door ever but bad enough!

I found making the corners a bit of a sod, but these should do the job, nobody really sees them anyway!

Go easy on me about the quality of work, its been a while since i picked up the welding torch let alone cut some metal! I hope to get the door finished tomorrow so i can have both doors shotblasted very soon. Hopefully seeing 2 things done will encourage me to do more on the rest!

Very nice work[8D] it'll look brilliant when it's finished.
Are'nt B&Q rip saws wonderful - they'll cut through anything;)

Thanks Panky! Unfortunately i havent had much luck with that saws blade...tore all the teeth off it cutting a tiny bit of metal! Not impressed!

There's nothing wrong with your metal work, looks very neat. I don't think I'd have a hope in hell forming corners like you have.

Well its been about 6 months since i last made progress with the commer...oh how time goes by!

Planned a trip home from uni this weekend to work specifically on the commer and get covered in rust :) I am hoping tomorrow i will have time to check out the brake situation and see if i can figure out a suitable conversion

First thing was sort out this rear corner, somebody else had attacked it and it wasnt right:

Unfortunately i was let down by the firm who were going to be making me some new panels [:(!] shame as i had planned to get the left hand side looking a little less flimsy! however it has given me a chance to get on with some rust removal underneath, which exposed a few holes, but not as bad as i had feared!

and weld back in some refurbished panels out back

Whoever was let loose on the commer before me, seems to be a little special in the head and had literally just welded a plate over the holes appearing on the roof/gutter join. Thats going to be mega fun to sort out!

Gonna get out again tonight and patch up some more holes :) really need to make up for the lack of attention!

Looks like you are going to have lots and lots of fun:)
Glad to see your enthusiasm hasn't wained after all that time[^]

Summer's Coming.....
Trust me

Cheers Panky :) sods law that once i started on another patch repair, the welder gas ran out [:(!]

Looks like tomorrow will be dedicated to alot of wire brushing and fiddling with brakes!
