A minute at last to put a decent post together!!!
After we left you guys at Commer land we headed for Scarborough and had a couple of days there. Found some nice farm shops and had nice fish and chips. We then set off for our first "Britstop" and ended up at the pink pig farm in S****horpe. It's so much niver than it sounds and is a farm shop (a recurring theme in our trips, I am in catering so love nice food) as well as a restaurant and visitor attraction. We got there and found that once everyone had gone home, we had a lovely big field to ourselves...all for free. Only issue with this place was that once the cafe closed then we had no facilities, not a problem if you are staying at a britstop pub. It was really quiet, dark and peaceful there. Up early the next moring for a dash to the loo and a full English!!!.
Next stop was Oakham and the funeral of Josie's grandad, stayed at a site close by and we were the youngest there by years!!!
After leaving Oakham, the plan was to then hit Bournemouth...we got as far as Milton Keynes and the van expired in a puff of steam. I diagagnosed a blown head gasket on Number one....easy to do when you have steam coming out the spark plug hole like ivor the engine. We managed to get a gasket set from Gaskets for classics, but as it was Friday, he couldn't get it to us till Monday, so we got the AA man to take us to Josie's uncle in Yeovil (saved a fortune in petrol) as he had access to a machine shop to skim the head if needed. We got there late Friday and had a shandy or two, before dropping the head off in Chard. They took 10 thousands off and we spent the rest of the day cleaning things up and lapping the valves.
Sunday, we went to the Haynes museum and saw some fantastic cars including a dussenburg.
The gasket turned up Monday, so spent a couple of hours sorting that out then we headed for Devon. We spent ther rest of the week at our favourite campsite, just outside Hope Cove in Devon and chilled for a couple of days, visiting nice farm shops and eating lovely food.
We then headed up to Axeminster, where we had lunch at "the river cottage canteen" which really was fantastic. On the final leg home, I started getting concerned about the noises from the drivers side front, On checking, there was some play in the bearings, so I adjusted. 30 miles later the play in the bearing had returned, so I tried adjusting again, the hub was nice and hot, and there was no more more slack in the hub nut to adjust out...In the past I would have tried limping home, but decided against it and spent the last couple of miles on the back of the shameful yellow truck lol.
