I have had a gearbox day today....suprise! Compared with the other gearboxes I have, the one I am having problems with suffers from a bit of play when you turn the input shaft before anything engages. I stripped it down and found I had a bent baulk ring that goes on to the input shaft. I replaced this, rebuilt the box...and the play is still there. Any ideas folks? The front bearing seems fine, though the rear one appears to be working loose when you change gear.
Sorted...when converting your box to overdrive. Make sure you use the correct lay shaft, that matches the input shaft and also make sure you use the correct gears. Second and third are the same. First and forth are different.
So I am using commer input shaft with 4th, and overdrive shaft with over drive second and third gears with commer 1st gear. This with new bearings and seals has stopped the whirring and also removed the play.

Pesky coil! Intermittent ignition fault traced backto a dodgy coil. Whipped one off one of the minis and seems to be cured. Will this be ok long term. It's a Lucas sports coil apparently.
Cheers panky. No I have the accuspark leccy dizzy. I did ask if I needed to get a different coil and accuspark said nope. In other news I have ordered the 80a alternator from ratsport...with all these extra leccy bits the current amp struggles.
Really happy with the leccy water pump, it warms up so much quicker and on motorway runs I have to have the fan thermostat switched all the way down to get the temp up....crazy for a commer lol!

I think I may need to move the fuel pump. It's a mini one and they usually go on the rear subframe and push the fuel. Mine is currently beneath the carbs and is doing more sucking than pushing...I am still trying to cure what feels like under fueling at sub-sonic speeds.
Had a great weekend in Cleethorpes. Once again, there was an ale and music festival at the minature steam railway, just outside the entrance to the campsite...It would be rude not to!!! Another great event that I would recommend to anyone, whole likes beer/cider and music!!!!!
My temporary fix that I did last April finally gave way!! :-(
Due to overheating I turned the "Scoop" that sits under the front valance upsideown and attached with tie wraps, which directed cold air to the radiator. After 15 months these gave way and I now have a buckled scoop. I will make one up and see if I can get the mouth of it a bit deeper for more cold air, when it came unattatched the temperature soon shot up.
My temporary fix that I did last April finally gave way!! :-(
