My New Baby!!!

It will take a bit if fettling with your experimental carb set up, but once it's sorted - oh yes:p[8D]

Summer's here.....
So they say

I concur panky. One carb has petrol coming out the overflow for some reason...been on winsu and ordered a couple of Aac needles

It's even easier to put an engine and gearbox in an imp! :D

Have you changed the cooling set up nick? That looks like a Hunter's set up. Love the way you have mounted the engine on the stand! I never considered doing it that way when I was using a similar stand on Babs.

Cooling set up is as it was when we bought it....should cool better now coolant can get to 4 cylinders! The engine worked well like that, it was just the alternator that I couldn't fit. Carb needles ordered.

Well...the carb needles were delivered today....or would have been if postie could get them through the letter box.....must have grown since last time I ordered some! Lol

Not a good weekend for me. Got knocked off my bike, and trying to crawl under the commer when you can hardly walk is no fun. Trying to set tappets on my own seems impossible! A bit fed up with it to be honest today! Lol engine runs though, but when I whipped off the rocker cover, there doesn't appear to be much oil as i would expect

Check the oil feed pipe that comes up from the side of the engine. Take it off and clear it out, they are notorious for blocking up ;)

Oh dear! Followed Martins suggestion, pipe clear! To get to the bolts for tappet chest I removed the oil filter which was empty....I think I have no oil circulating! There is no oil pressure switch to check this...full tank of fuel in the van....may torch it. Any more positive suggestions?

Erm, you did put oil in:I
Was the filter bone dry, it will drain back into the sump.

Summer's nearly done

Lots of oil...no leaks, filter might have had oil, when i removed the tappet feed pipe and turned engine over...still no squirt squirt of oil

Sorry about you accident by the way[xx(] Hope to are not too bashed up. I'm thinking you need to fit an oil pressure sender or a gauge before anything else to find out for sure, I'm surprised there isn't one fitted already.

Nick- sorry to hear about your spill -hope things improve! Just a thought about tappets-although I guess you have more on your mind just now. An old mechanic once told me to throw the handbook away , rotate the engine from the fan belt tension then adjust the set that didn't move - this seems a bit unorthadox but is the way I set Clarabels tappets with no knock for about 20 years- I also had to work by myself -where needs must! (Is there any rationalle to this method -for any mechanics folowing this?) Hazels Dad

Thanks for the reply - glad its not just fokelore -seemed to work ok and was easy to understand! - probably need to spread the word! Hazels Dad

Have you primed the oil system [?] some engines need it to get the pump going :)

"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

How do I do I prime it? Also where does the oil pressure switch go, there are several grub screws on the bottom of the block, which appears to be an oil gallery, and one on the dizzy housing part of the block.

It's low down on the oil filter side of the block, right in the middle. Might be worth checking the oil pressure relief valve in the filter housing.

The same old mechanic who advised on tappets also suggested I filled up the oil filter before replacing - I dont know whether this was to avoids locks but every litle helps. Hazels Dad- hang on in there!
