Been to pick this up this morning. The vendor was a very interesting chap with a couple of rally prepped rapiers ans well as a track prepped Morris Minor and other exotics lol. He has entered classic rallies including the monte. knows his stuff.
 
I don't think the proper Holbay dizzy has a vacuum advance as this one does - but it could have been changed at some point. Any chance of a pic of the other side, the ports are different on a Holbay compared with the normal ally head.

I seem to remember that there is 2 different dizzy,s for them, but i could be wrong :I

I nicked this off the American Alpine Club site.

..... but an engine number beginning B391000001 is always good.
Visually there should be a set of 40's, a named rocker cover and alloy sump, genuine Holbay heads have production number stamped on the front L/H side and generally there should be no vacuum advance on distributor.

Later on it says that later Arrows range engines did have a dizzy with a vac advance.

Lol...my issue is, the engine is in the boot of josies car, and I pick Josie and her parents up from the airport in her car on Tuesday. I will try and work out how to get it out tomorrow lol

An old gasket fitted on, Which seems to fit. I also like the grease nipple on the water pump.

THe push rods appear to be tubular instead of solid...an indicator of Holbayness according to Haynes.

THe source of so much frustration for me....that pigging overdrive!!!! lol
The man I got the engine off threw in an old overdrive unit. this appears to be a "D" type unit without the case that goes between gear box and overdrive. This is spares or repair.
 
I'm convinced:) Have you checked the engine number and if there's a serial number stamped on the head.
That's the bottom location where the OD sits on the crossmember.

engine number starts B341000001 Not found a serial number yet. If anyone knows someone who wants to purchase the engine let me know. It turns over nicely.

Old gearbox back in...went to start her up and I have lost the keys!!!! Gaaaagh!
I am redoing the fromt wiring loom whilst I work out what to do

Best places to look for lost keys. Toolbox, overalls pocket, under all the crap you've left in the cab, under the van, in the fridge. Or ask Josie she'll now:)
