After spending a couple of weekends fixing it....My welder is dead!!!
So I made some more repair panes......I am going to need them.
In more upbeat news, I will soon be the proud owner of Thowman's Shrinker/Stretcher.
I just need to get my head round what is going on down here. I know that I need a fluted outer step panel, as I removed the old one without the aid of any tools.

That is brilliant John.
The shrinker arrived from Thowman today so I had a play with it. What a useful bit of kit!

I shall be using it lots. It has enabled me to make up one of the missing curved flanges and also get the basic shape of one of the repair panels for around the top of the front panel. Have also made up some repairs for the edges of the front panel.

speed resto using Metal way to go Nick:)

first dibs if you finish the resto next week on the stretcher :D

could you put pics up on the front inner / outer step repair :)

At the risk of being annoying by jumping in again:I I trawled through Martin M's and Woolfy's threads to get my head around it and this was the result.

http://forum.commervanfan.co.uk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=241&whichpage=143&SearchTerms=back,of

and scan through the next four of five pages. Then page 165 and continue on 'til morning

The other side starts on page 167:)

I held the repair section on with self-tapper first then tacked along the seam, one end then the other, and ended up with a tack about every half an inch then welded through the hole where the self tappers were. I didn't seam weld it as I was scared of distorting the door skin:I but it seems good and strong. I know others have done successfully though but they're better welders than me.

I cracked on today, applied a skim of filler and was just starting to get the other side ready for new metal when the grinder died.

Hardcore working in the snow..:)
I like the smooth look , any more pics [?]
that stretcher has paid for it's self already.,,great work

what you planning on the lower scoop [?]

The middle air intake will be smoothed off and I will probably add a wire grill type thing. The lower chin scraper scoop does well in summer getting the cool air in. So I will just smarten it up.
I have rigged a tarpaulin over the van so I can stay dry.

If the weather there is as bad as it is here then you're a brave man;)
Any pics:)

I've found that laying underneath swinging a hammer and chisel has the same effect:) But not this winter;)
