It wouldn't stop the screen breaking but would prevent you getting covered in shattered glass.

That reminds me of the emergency windscreens which we used to keep in the boot of the cars in the old days, the type you glued onto the remains of the safety glass windscreen - prior to the laminated screens. It helped out our family at least once while on holiday, when a timber truck threw up some serious sized gravel while we were on car holiday in Northern Finland in the mid-1970s. Boy, that was scary!

I Didn't do it myself though, I took it to a place that makes tarpaulins
for narrow boats.
