Milky gearbox oil

Still Trying to figure out why the overdrive was not working [?],
on checking the oil level , Milky oil dribbled out ,
Van has been laid up since we came home ,which it managed ok without the o/drive working .

Added some coffee and sugar and still better than Jim's brew's [:eek:)]
 
Possibly water from condensation mixing with the oil?

Cant think of any other way water could have got in, unless it's been parked in a very deep puddle[:0]
Either way get it drained off quickly.

Perhaps the gearbox/overdrive was top up with some sort of oil that is not compatible or reacted? I have seen engine oil turn to jelly or go like tar just from mixing with another brand or type oil. Just a thought...

I just need a good rootes...
 
Are you sure its water related? Could be the clutch lining of the od breaking down. Also check to make sure its not alloy particles from a mechanical issue

will try fresh 20/50 and look for a result , hopefully it's lack of use
 
Reckon it will be condensation. A little water seems to make quite an emulsifaction

[?]drained it oil was nice and clean no bits to see ,
refilled with 20/50 .
not been out and about yet still waiting on dvla for my reg no.

trying to get original number back.:)
 
Replaced the oil a year ago. It has worked and wasn't slipping in the past. But stopped working after I didn't use the van last year. But can ofcourse be that the seals are one the way out. Seal kit isn't expensive and rather easy to replace.
Did you already start to fit the SU kit or will you keep the solex?

van is running great on the original solex ,
just waiting on dvla [xx(] sent copy of original bill of sale , to help my case to get the number back.
will try the seals after I change the switch [?],
 
checked it by , ignition on , selecting 4th and flicking o/drive on ?
didn't hear a click , will recheck , get Yvonne to crawl underneath ....[}:)].

If no click the next thing to do is run a live straight to the solenoid and see if it clicks when to touch it to the contact.

They usually are:) There are a few different types A,D and J types, all basically the same but with a few differences like solenoid construction and percentage increase in final drive.
