Looking for a good pop top Commer camper...

Hi Commer fans ... I'm in the market for a camper and am foolish / wise (delete as required) enough to consider a well sorted Commer. Needs to be a pop top and very good as I'm not on for a (nother) project.

Got a decent budget for the right van.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Cheers,
Sean

Hi, thanks, hadn't seen that thread.

I've seen that van on eBay... it does look very nice. But I guess it should for 15k :)

Am I being too fussy wanting overdrive ? ... and am I right in thinking that van does not have it ?

Would be interesting to see the resto thread on it if you can find it. I'll have a look.

cheers.

Found the resto thread thanks... nice that she's called Bessie, I spent most of my 20s travelling in a Dodge 50 called Bessie :)

As with all vehicles they are worth what someone is prepared to pay for them. If someone can buy a van for a lower price and sell it at a higher price then fair enough, all credit to them for identifying the potential. I doubt the owners of Ran will achieve their price, given non-original panels giving rise to concerns about what lies underneath, but the 1961 Bluebird is an absolute gem and will be familiar to all who saw it Commerfest and I doubt 'normal' values apply. The current owner has not bought it to sell on at a profit, he bought a unique and good van and paid what was then a high price. He has since invested in it with sensible upgrades such as the 6 speed Lexus gearbox. Being familiar with my sister's 1961 Maidstone I can appreciate the value of the upgrades. If you are a stickler for originality, perhaps it is not for you, but for most Commer fans it is close to the holy grail. One question though: It is described as a PA. Is this a Forward Control, pre-dating the designation of PA?
