seatbelts for the rear are on order. 2 lapbelts with adjustable length buckle strap and 120cm webbing for the other half. Kitemarked etc. Hopefully get them mounted in on Saturday then it`s suitable for family outings..... Camping ones hopefully, the towbar should be on Sunday ( unless major welding is needed to modify the bar, it will go to a mate if it does. His MiG is bigger than mine and runs 1.0mm wire)

Woohoo. Send the cheerleaders round to motivate me please!!!.
I need to find some 1/2"UNC (I think) 3"long bolts and some nuts so I can mount the belt end. The buckle end is getting bolted to a chassis member through the floor, that can be done with metric stuff.

Seat belt threads are normally UNF. Unc is interchangable with Whitworth:)

Today I will mostly be drilling holes in the recently repaired chassis and floor in order to attempt to fit rear seatbelts.....

Seatbelts done. One end bolted to near drivers one. The other ends mounted to the chassis using spacers the same thickness as the wood floor..

Now the towbar. I used it because it was given to me to use, Being a Yorkshireman means I had to use it. lol.:D

It`s a westfalia detachable neck bar from a BMW 3 series saloon E36 shape.

2 plates were cut from 6mm thick steel and bolted to the chassis. The distance between was the bar length. The bar has curves in both directions so a cunning plan was concieved. Using a spirit level and set square the ends were marked and cut off.

the remaining webs were cut off and cleaned up.
The whole lot was mocked up under the van and after draining the fuel tank the bar was tacked to the plates and removed..

This was all then seam welded using an industrial MiG, rubbed down and painted.

When the paint dried it was just a case of bolting to the chassis with 12mm bolts and sleeves to stop chassis being crushed.

This has gotta be a first? Detachable tow bar on a Commer/Dodge???

I have decided to not fit side windows at the mo. Partly because I like the van look. The down side being that the current signwriting is peeling off. The concensus at the moment is to redo it but keep up the fake newspaper logo........ It's going to be the Daily Planet (Superman)
