Lilith the V8 racing Spacevan

Well, everything is still in bits but hopefully not for much longer.
I have finally bought a roof rack, it needs some tidying up and maybe extending but will see.

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

Hi guys. Sorry Ive not been on much. There has been a lot going on recently. Im now single and have very little time to sort the van out so heres an update.....

I rebuilt the top end of the engine and got approx 200 miles before big end failure! It spun the shells of cyl 2 and locked the engine solid. Martin came up trumps yet again and supplied a nearly new crank and a new set of big end shells, main bearing shells, oil pump, and the facilities to do the job! She was running OK until she sucked water out of the fuel tank, I drained the tank, pipes and fitted a new filter. The carb was also stripped and cleaned.
She then started misfiring and popping, cutting out etc. The points were found to be at fault!!

400 miles down the line she is running spot on but has developed an oil leak from the timing case, the jobs keep coming!!

she won't beat me! Looks to be from the crank pulley. Despite the fact I used Martin's special tool to line the casing up it cant be right. Didn't leak for at least 360 miles so the case has probably worn away. Bugger

Make sure the engine breather is clear, if it isn't pressure will build up and force oil past the scroll.

good point. It was blocked previously and i had a smoke screen. Its now just an open pipe, I need to reinstate the breather filters but they ended up getting binned so need to get more. Will run it up tonight and see what happens.

yup, you may possibly have been right. I've removed the breather pipes and the only oil leak I can now see (fingers crossed) is from the open breather pipe. Will see later when i steam clean it all off later.

Sounds promising. if it's possible run the vent to the inlet manifold so it pulls a slight vacuum on the engine.

Pipe it to the vac line on the carb, the one that should be blanked off with a bit of fuel pipe. You may need to richen the mixture a little as it will be drawing more air in.

That's the one. On a Mini that's it's function to draw the engine fumes in and burn them, same on a Minor but the slight vacuum stops the oil getting past the crank scrolls (no seals). The Zenith doesn't have one.
I'll see how you get on and if it works I'll do it on mine;)

Well, it seems to have worked.
broke down on M62 again.... Same place as the big ends went!! Luckily just a failed dizzy cap centre bush..... Again!! Lol

I'm not claiming responsibility for that one, maybe choking the engine up with gunk pulled into the carb but not a failed dizzy cap;)
I think you're just an attention seeker:rolleyes:

;):rolleyes:Off on a trip to the seaside for the night with the kids this morning. Luckily my new AA card just came through the post! Wont need it though
