You can just go for the points conversion. I chose to change the distributor too as it's not too much more expensive, and at least you get rid of any wear in the dizzy shaft. The guy in the shop said that for most cars, the advance curve isn't that important - especially if you are not looking for high performance. However, you can always swap over the weights and springs from your existing dizzy. But I like new shiny things, so I bought the whole lot. Only cost £70.

Part one completed. Fitted the distributor and coil, tidied up some wiring and replaced some horrible crimp on terminals that I detest. While I was there, the oily side of the engine got a blast with my engine degreasing gun filled with paraffin. So, the distributor side of the engine is now nice and clean. Happily, the engine started first time, and now idles nice and smoothly. I am very pleased.
Part two, the fitting of the electric fuel pump will be done next week, once the mounting kit has arrived. I forgot to order the bobbins when I ordered the fuel pump. All I have to do now is source some suitable nylon fuel line, and decide where I am going to position it. I have a rivnut fitting thing, o will be fitting it using this method.
I will be bypassing the original fuel pump. I guess I will leave it in place as I don't have a blanking plate.

Well, Jog and I (and Ruth) will be going on holiday at the end of August. The destination - Southern Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland, maybe with a bit of France.
Ruth parent's live between Strasbourg and Freiburg (on the sausage muncher's side of the border) and will be looking after the kids for her for 3 weeks, so the plan is to meet her at near Munich and then do a little tour of the alps and then head back to Freiburg for her to collect the kids and fly home with them (back to Barcelona).
So, I have a list of things I need to get done before I go:

Sort fuelling issues (in hand)
Repair awning
Fit fridge, or provide connection point for coolbox
Fit decent radio/mp3 system.

Latest update for Jog. Not used him since Pandy, and have since stripped and rebuilt the carb, replacing the needle valve and float to try to get an improvement on 19mpg.
Was going to take him to the Uxbridge autoshow today, but this was cancelled - but took him up to Ealing instead, where is spent the night in an underground car park. This morning we went over to my brother's house for an introduction to my car mad nephew. Jog was a big hit. Every switch was turned on and off, cupboard opened etc, and then we had tears when it was time to go.... well, he's only 2
However, the best result of all was when I filled up just before getting home, having done the same when I left yesterday. Did a total of 76 miles, mostly on motorways and dual carriageways at between 55 and 60 mph, and the total was 11.75 litres - which works out around 30 mpg. Not a bad improvement. The timing needs resetting - there is a lot of popping on the overrun, but will do that when I fit the new rad once it's back from being recored. Coming soon is a rewire, electric rad fan, new hoses, electric fuel pump (still not fitted but currently awaiting a pressure regulator), leisure battery and electrical hook up - and a fridge if I have time. All this needs to be done before the 24th August, when I will be heading across the channel for a tour of the Alps with Ruth.
