jessicas xmas pressie

thanks Rupert :)
i think you will struggle to find a 4 branch for iron engines [xx(]
its more a case of having one made, which i can do but it will not be cheap (200-250)[:0]
as an alternative, i can modify the std manifold to flow more and take a bigger downpipe, which i can supply. if anyone is interested (80):)

WOW :p:p......... I can wait as long as it takes, it wont stop me fitting the engine. Started cleaning the head up today, the valves just need the lightest lap-in and I'm pollishing the ports as best I can. I'n not brave enough to start taking metal from the combustion chambers but they will be shiny [8D][8D]

nice work BMM, I've got the carb all ready to go on, but have still to souce a spare manifold. I would be very interested to hear how much better it is and did you have to modify any of the surrounding panels or did it go straight in? I'm not in any hurry at the moment as Thingyjig is off the road at present awaiting respray.
Cheers

ok time for a teeeny update and a bunch of questions.

The manifolds are now almost ready to go in. I've fitted a servo connection and I have an un-broken exhaust manifold (see here for more details http://rupertpugh.blogspot.com/2009/05/one-step-forwards-and-eight-back.html) ready to go on. I had a bit of trouble cleaning off the head-manfold face. There was a load of rust/nastiness under the middle manifold ports which needed to be chipped off.

Time for the questions:

firstly - the nuts I removed from the manifold studs were steel - shouldn't they be brass?
second - I need to close over the hole in the top of the exhaust manifold with a steel plate but should I keep the deflector (from between the exuaust and inlet manifolds? It seems a little brutal, but it would be quite straight forward to flatten it out, weld it up and use it as the manifold closing plate.

any advice (as usual) gratefully apreciated.

p.s. Martin you have mail!

cheers

Rupert
