I am mad, welcome me in...

Yoda and Rich

New Member
Hello folks. I have made what seems to me at the moment to be a crazy decision to buy and restore Yoda, a Commer 1972 dormobile coaster. I bought her, thinking a few panels here and there, a respray and she'll be good to go... I was wrong... having bought almost every panel that Martin can supply and cutting Yoda to bits, I have now discovered what it is like to embark on restoring a rusty Commer... I'll post some photos of the progress so far, soon as I can work out how to add photos from my iphone onto this post/ site? What do you think folks? Do I qualify for the mad house?

Here are he photos

Hi Rich and welcome to the Madhouse:D
If anyone qualifies it'd definitely you. Panels? just need more tape;) A Coaster with a nice interior too, luvvit:cool:

Thank you folks for your graciousness... The interior has been stripped and the inner sills have been done/ some outriggers and the floor in the back and the front, now onto the front. As you can see a lilttle on the rotten side here - eek! Fortunately I have spoken to Martin who can provide two new pillars for the front, which go all the way from the floor to the roof and include the front gutters too. I also have a whole new front for Yoda, (well second hand front) to go on. I'm guessing at this stage a few of you have been loosing patience and wondering how much more money will be sucked into the restoration. I've been worrying myself that why I have spent on Yoda so far I could have bought a completely restored Commer. Instead this is how Yoda looks...

Yes the interior was redone so I have a decent roller bed, fridge, sink, grill and job to go back into Yoda, once the restoration has been done...

Welcome, you are quite clearly mad, so will fit in well here.
One small comment on your user name though, I think perhaps you would be advised to change it to 'Yoda and Poor'!

As a new member myself I wish you welcome and admire your courage!

Fascinating photos seeing the front off and I look forward to seeing the progress!

Hi there rich , it's good to see some one who also has there work cut out. The way I see it whilst renovating a commer is that it has to be done for the heart not the wallet as they just don't command the money. Yes you and I could have probably saved alot of time and money if we had waited for that perfect example but unfortunately they very rarely show up. The satisfaction of doing one up is amazing and gives you a completely different bond with your van so keep the faith brother :)

Thanks for the words Jimmy. Yeah I'm kinda figuring that this is not going to be a financial investment and it will is a matter of the heart and the price of coolness... it will be a cool van when it's done. Until then I'll focus on the Commer love...
