Hi all from down under!

I think it's a lovely car, and in great condition! If I was in Australia, I'd buy it off you!

Far to good to take to bits[:0] That's not surface rust - that there's patina[8D]

Hi all,

Had a bit of a fiddle with the head lights today.

I dont know what you have over in the uk but over here in aus (until recently) if you wanted to have helogen headlights you could only buy housings with flat lenses (the auto elec told me today you can get them now but there $120each! which is about 100 to much for me!)

so anyway a while back i brought a NOS "helogen" headlight conversion for a XA falcon with domed lenses which is made by LUCAS but as i turns out its not a true helogen conversion as it only uses incandesent (cant spell that!) globes! which are also near obsolete, so on the advice of the auto elec i brought some standard H4 globes and cut them down to fit.
This is how it went:

See domed lense oowww aaarrr!

The bracket is not wide enough or notched for a H4

Standard globe

Modified globe!

TA DA!

Finished looks orig but has a much better light source!

Also while chasing up a lead on a hillman hunter for a mate i came across a alloy headed 1725 with 2bbl manifold and auto attached for $50!

Another update!

I think i mite have the breaks sorted finally/maybe?

I had the rear slave cyl's re-sleeved from my parts van, as my van came to me optioned with NO breaks at all, and also cleaned up and swapped the rear break lines from the rubber hose back (as the ones on the van had been sitting open for quite awhile and the insides were rather rusty!)

All was going well got a mate to help me bleed them through just as it was getting pressure the main line from the splitter block to the back of the van popped! looks like it has had break fluid dripping on it from the reservoir and all so had been wearing on the chassis so when it got pressure it let go!
So off to the parts van again to salvage a rear line!

Anyway after all the farting around it seems to finally have a peddle, well as good as it can for 4 wheel, single circ, un-boosted drums!

next step is to get the thing to run nice and clean, could be partly my fault i was to tight to buy a jerry can of fuel when i got it so i drained the tank of one of my wrecks that was last reged in 1986, mite be a bit stale!

I learnt that one, ALWAYS use fresh fuel, also you could tranfer any muck from the other old tank!!
Well done with the head lights BTW ;);)

back to my "rootes"

i found some over riders for the van the other day, after drawing insperation from one of the vans that was i the for sale section, they are off an austin a55 or something like that it was a little austin with a big six anyway...

After a bit of trimming i think they work well now to decide where to mount them here are some picks what do you think?

first pic of orig and trimmed orig on left

This is where they would be if i used bumper bracket holes

This is moved in slightly
18nov004.jpg

I could move them right in and mount plate there, or just moved in but with plate in orig spot.

There is holes drilled in the bar already, this is where they are...... bit far apart i think

What do you think... i think it makes the van look smaller the closer they are and it looks like a bloated hippo with them right out!

Brilliant lights[8D]
I was thinking along the same lines as the overriders - I likes me bling:p

Summer's Coming

Looks like its option 2 then by a majority vote, i think that would probably be the best place for them, no to decide if i should put the other pair on the back....... i'll let you know

Well its been an exciting weekend! i sold the minx, a valiant wagon, and my cream CM valiant sedan (it was on 'whats your other ride') which was my daily driver, so i'm high and dry without a ride! Never fear the plan all along was to sell the valiant and to put the van on the road as my new daily.

So i was all systems go today i striped off some old tires cleaned up the rims and got some new bags fitted 185/65/15 up front and 195/65/15 on the back, i know oooooo fats! lol
Also fitted new seat belts,
The rear bars
And drained the stale fuel out of the tank.

Going to get a permit some time this week so i can run around in it to and from the mech till i get it just right!

Not long now i recon 2 weeks and it should be back on the road!
When i have it out again i will take some snaps it looks sweet now with tires that match and the caps all back on!

Congrats on the sales of your cars (Hillman Minx and Valiants), although is tough when you are left without a set of wheels (well, registered ones anyways).

Fantastic news that you reckon about 2 weeks time and the Commer will be on the road again[8D]. Keep us posted on everything happening there and the pics will be really welcome too[8D];) I am sure you will get a lot of satisfaction after having the van back on the road, really will be worth all the work you've done.

Found a few more pics of one of the Aussie signwritten vans originally from Benalla (Brandy), and have posted the links etc also a Commer Signwriting brochure set of images on the signwriting topic on the forum. (link as follows)>>

I will do 60mile now! it has death rattles like its going to implode but it will do it!!!
Being an auto its a bit of a slug to but its closer to being ready and thats what matters!

I know i know i will put more pics on tomorrow if the weather holds out for some good ones!
