Hi all from down under!

Jack one side of the axle/or car so that one side of the axle hangs lower, that might help. When my standard height Commer was on axle stands, I couldn't get the rear wheels off, but jack up one side at a time and they come off OK.

Hi All,

Still haven't done anything to my van, i have found out that if you quit your job and work from home you dont get much time to play with your own toys!

On a better note i went and checked out these two (thanks to a leed from 'chromo')
I think i'll have to drag them home i cant just leave them there for a scrappy to come along!

Apart from the peak the van is a good thing its pretty straight and appears to be all there he said he parked it there many years ago but the clutch was stuffed.

As for the camper i think its beyond it! looks like it would have been a wild unit in its time (front mount spare, twin rear mount gas bottles even has a chrome valve cover!) it's got the rear doors welded/bogged shut by the looks of things. but still lots of usable parts!

He also has one that has been chopped into little pieces that he was "going to get rid of but never got around to it" thats now over grown with black berries but he said its got discs on the front! there is also a hillman minx in the black berries (so he said, stuffed if i could see it!) and a commer diff with hummber center.

I really need to have a good run of weather so the ground dry's out so i can save some of these abandons!

I think these are the first Aussie Commers we've seen with any serious rot[:0]

PS: good colour variations using photoshop beforehand too.[8D]

Cheers,
Andrea.

Surprising how many are over here, and many more quietly hidden away in various areas of Australia starting to surface back on the road again after being stored away in garages as well.

Hi Jamie
Welcome !!! Great having another Aussie too (woops, I got the cheekiness back to the northern hemisphere fellow members here :D:)[8D]:D:p;))

Just left a reply on your readers rides new posting too!!

Cheers & once again welcome
Andrea

Well its time for a bit more of an update.

Its been hard to find time to tinker but im getting there slowly.

I fixed the rust in the peak and put the windscreen back in also finished off the nudge that it had in the drivers side front.

Fitted an exhaust as it had massive lack of one! it was about 1foot long then nothing...

refitted the grill (i dont know weather to go bumpers on or bumpers off, if i put them back on i think i mite bear metal and clear coat them)

Things left to do:

Its got no hyd breaks only had break.

Also going to give the engine a birthday new points, plugs, leads, coil. and check timing and clearances and should nearly be ready to maybe get on the road!

Been thinking about my diff options for later down the track to, i'm going to get a second short side axle out of a centura and shorten the standard centura diff i have to except two short side axles this should make it plenty narrow enough to get it up under the van and get wheels on and off!

Good value for $100[8D], (sounds like a Series 6 Minx), will have a 1725 cast iron motor if with original motor still fitted. Will be good if you can get some pics of it, especially of the dash/speedo which can confirm the Series type by the speedo etc, also if it has the 1725 badges on the front guards along with a single Chrysler Pentastar on the front left guard below the 1725 badge.

Well i had some time to play with it today.

The story with it goes (casue they all have a story!)

"Its a 66' maxk5 with a 1725 and Auto'go'magic!
The guy who had it said he was the second owner and had had it for around 25years and all its life it had been in a shed bar the last 4-5years. it is covered with surface rust but he said it had started doing that before it was even left outside?"

It came with all the original paper work, service manual, auto manual, owners manual and the last lot of insurance info from 1985.
It was an ex demo car so has pretty much everything even the original radio still works!

The body is very straight maybe three little dints, and is covered in surface rust, it needs a little repairing in the bottem of the quarters but is otherwise good.

The interior is amazing!! it is 98% in excellent cond! the original seat belts are like new!

Anyway so i had time to play today put some fuel in the tank and a battery and a bit of stuffing around and she goes! first off like a tractor (it had two stuck exhaust valves) but now pretty well for something that sat for so long and the auto works but is hemrageing big time, but moves forward and back.

here is some pics anyway:

Also....
Couldnt believe my luck, the minx has a smashed windscreen and has had for around 7years the guy said, but it has held together all this time.
On the way home with the minx on the trailer we drove past our local scrap metal yard and there was another minx sitting in there pretty poor condition but windscreen intact and already removed from car!!!

What do you think i know there not popular over here but it just seems to good to wreck?

Gee, a really good bargain for sure. And going by the badging and also the interior and dash is a Series 6 Minx sedan.

Thanks for posting the photos of this and good to see it go to a good collector too.;)

(Check email, P.M. sent as well to you)
