HELP NEEDED URGENTon the side of the road with radiator emptied

I can see from your pic that it's an original engine driven fan so running continually is normal. Give it a rev and see if the level drops.

temp at continuose 50 water at 45 , I will leave it till tomorrow as It go t to dark to see the steam , I didnt want to be breathing it in , engine sounds so quiet . when i dropped the water from the rad it was only about the same amount as i have put back in , i wonder if the early 60s oVan's used less for the cooling system? I didnt get a chance to rev it never even thought of it , there is 69000 miles on it which I believe to be genuine. how long does it normally take to heat the engine to wear it would steam , it was steaming but not much, I am puzzled . I will let it run longer tommorow . wht do u think .

If the heater is blowing warm then the circuit is full of coolant. It should be fine now, put the cap on and take it for a drive making sure you take some extra coolant with you just in case.

I will check the heater tommorow, I,m puzzled as I on put 2 litre of each into the system , , I think the output of the radiator which is about 4inches above the bottom has something to do with why it took only 4 litre to fill it , I reckon
that the rest was in the bottom of the rad because of 5he high outlet . well I,ll bring it for a drive tommorow and as u recommended I will bring some antifree with me . any thoughts on the thing that is not connected to the water pump. There is already one connected . is the other one just an old piece, or should it be connected

Thanks for the help everyone , one last ? does the heater blow hot air only after engine has heated up or can it fo it straight away

The cooling system needs to warm up for the heater to work. The piece that's dangling behind the steering column looks like a temperature bulb that connects a water temperature gauge, but it looks like there's already one fitted to the thermostat housing.

what's ur thoughts on it only taking what seems like 4ltres ,, 2 litres of each to fill it , that's about the same that came out of it

I'd be fine with it, as you say there's probable a bit of the original coolant still in there somewhere. Just keep an eye on the level and you'll be good.

I am thinking i may drop the fluid back out of it and drain it threw the bottom tap instead of from were the bottom hose connects, and then refill it , the only reason been as I flushed it threw with a hose and any antifreeze that would of being left in it would have been washed out so if anything was left it would be just water, so that would make it 5litres water to 2litres of antifreeze, I dont know if that would be enough antifreeze . when i dropped it first it was about 4 litres that came out before I flushed it with a hose , I havent driven it yet or tryed the heater as 5he weather here in Ireland .

It will be fine, the recommended mix is 30% anti freeze, a 50% mix is just an extra precaution, what you have in the system is plenty strong enough. You will probably need to top up once you've been for a run so add neat anti freeze if you are concerned - but there's absolutely no need to be.
Another point is that you will not get any more coolant out if you drain it though the drain tap than you would through the bottom hose.

ok panky ,I was just being over cautious , I am going out to leave it running for a while , and give it a few revs thanks again really appreciate the help

off topic , what's this for, is it an oil filter
