genuine dodge and commer parts for sale.

Hi Woolfy

Although no master of the welding yet, I gotta say you are asking a VERY reasonable amount for the above listed panels, especially as they are originals and especially as you are trying to raise money to further your quest to help EVERYBODY by recreating and engineering Commers one panel at a time for the cause of the better good, I will be first in the Queue to buy you a pint at the next meet matey!!

You could of course be being a bit greedy and doing your best to go down the route of ''Squirrel' and store every oppotunity to take advantage of the recent incline of Commer interest due to Darkside over pricingphobia!

Anyways, I'm rambling away and all I really wanted to say was, I wish you every success and I think your attitude to the Commer good is ACE!!

hi mate a few years ago when i first bought my commer van you could pick the vans up for peanuts , about £200.00. thats what i paid for mine anyway. ive always liked classic cars and always wanted a commer van,but when i bought it and found out that it needed loads of panels changing and lots of welding, i was horrified, as i had only seen the van in photos on ebay and not in the flesh, i never went to view the van first. anyway after about a year of searching the net for replacement parts and being outbid on ebay a most annoying amount of times, i decided to try another route and have some panels made by hand with the help from an old friend. to do this however was rather difficult because i had to chop lots of panels off of my very own van ,some of which were still quite good, and sacrifice them in hope that they could be re made . theses panels turned out very good as far as replacement parts went, especially seeing as none were available at the time anyway. over the next two years we have tried to improve on the quality everytime when making them, but have never really been able to get the flute lines quite as deep as the original panels, this is because we have to put the flute lines into the panel using a swagging machine. this metod is ok but you tend to find that the deeper you go the more the metal twists and distorts on you ,especially over a long distance panel. i looked for ages to find another way of making them eg ,by having new pressings made up so that they could be stamped out just like in the factory when they were new, but these cost tens and tens of thousands of pounds, and there just isnt the demand for panels to cover the costs involved. i even went back through all of the old arcives to see if i could find where the original factory presses ended up. i even got in touch with a company in iran where commers were made for a while, but still no luck. all the avenues seemed to lead to a dead end. in the mean time i just carried on plodding away with what we had to offer and hoped that one day i would find somewhere that would be able to do the task better. as the time slipped by the sceen for the commers has slowly snowballed along with my progress, i was never really sure how the sceen would react, it was just a gamble really i decided to take. anyway ive now found somewhere that is much better at making the panels to the exact dimentions as the originals , and like aways it was right on my doorstep all of the time. but hey ho its onwards and upwards from here i hope, for all of us who own a commer or want to restore one.;):p

You forgot to mention about all the new panels I loaned you, towards the good cause :I

did you get the panels back martin or are they on ebay now ;)

good work there Woolfy. I can vouch for your work, actually second hand.

My van had been worked on before I got it (I believe with your panels) the work wasn't done very well, but the panels are holding up nicely.

kepp it up!

only a day and a half left to run on the auction, (sadly not much interest at the moment) if they dont sell the jigs and castings may have to wait a bit longer to be made.:([V]

I am sure they will sell woolfy you won't know until the end of auction thats when things usually happen just have to wait and see..sure some one will fight for them :)you will never know if you withdraw from auction.Fingers crossed for you.

You would be better to list them individually - that way people will bid on just what they want - there is plenty of interest it may be that not many bidders want the lot.
