Gathering in Constable Country

Just to confirm I'll be there Friday evening. Hook up still required and I have a splitter also. Will be leaving Sunday.
Will probably have to jump in with someone for the run though.

We have a special guest coming to see us at the weekend, the great granddaughter of William Rootes, the founder of the Rootes group.

How to get there;
Travelling to Homestead Lake by Road
From London and the M25:

Take the A12.
Pass the exits to Colchester West and Colchester Central, then join the A120 signposted towards Harwich.
Take the first exit from the A120, signposted Clacton A133.
Follow the A133 then take the B1033 signposted Weeley.
From the Midlands and North:

Follow the A14 (signposted Felixstowe/Harwich) until you are south of Ipswich.
Join the A12 signposted London.
After approx. 10 miles, leave the A12 at the exit for Colchester and Harwich (A120).
Join the A120 towards Harwich.
Take the first exit from the A120, signposted Clacton A133.
Follow the A133 then take the B1033 signposted Weeley.

If it was possible to have access to a hookup on Saturday as well please Trev that would be really helpful and I can try out my new extension to run my little cool box (for the bacon & beer! :p)

We only have limited hook ups(4), so I am hoping that sharing ehu's with splitters for those who need electrickery will be ok. At the moment we have 3 splitters so will accommodate 7 units.

I know most people have sat-nav and phones that have navigational settings, but look out for the orange direction signs as you are travelling along the A12 joining the A120 and on to the Homestead lake park. When you arrive, go to the reception to book in and I will meet you if you let me know you're there. For very late arrivals just phone me when you arrive as I will have to let you in and sort out registration on Saturday morning. Looking forward to seeing y'all and safe journey's. Cheers Trev

Signs put up off of A 120 into Weeley but unfortunately due to extensive roadworks on the A12 and an unusually large amount of traffic it was too dangerous to be able to stop to put signs up there, but hopefully you will all find your ways O.K.

No problem at all Trev, I am sure we will sort something out. Looking foward to meeting everyone and the weather looks promising!

A really wonderful couple of days and thank you so much to everyone I met there and who were so warm, welcoming and generous!

Due to work commitments I arrived first thing Saturday morning to find everyone nicely settled in on the Rally Field so I parked up and was warmly greeted by Martin who I immediately started grilling about aspects of my van! :p

Introductions made to everyone it wasn't long until Tallither (the great grandaughter of William Rootes) and her husband Charlie who had been in contact with Martin and who were invited over, turned up to view the fine selection of vans on show.

Tallither being given the lowdown on the different models of Commer campers.

Heidi then proceeded to give her the grand tour!

But not before Bernie had made sure all was spick and span!

More to follow (after I have finished cooking supper!)

While Heidi entertained Tallither Colin & Helen made sure her husband Charlie was well looked after & informed.

After discussing the merits of each type of conversion we got ready to head off on the excellent tour of Constable country that had been expertly organised by Trevor and Sue.

Tallither joined Martin in his van to get the full experience (with her husband following behind as support vehicle) and Baz joined me in mine and I received an excellent insight into the Imp world and their superiority over the Mini in racing! :p.

We set off in a sedate convoy through the lanes of Essex with the expected short stops to allow the rest of the traffic to go free and to ensure we all were heading in the right direction!

First stop was for ice cream on the outskirts of Manningtree along the banks of the River Stour.

Tallither and Charlie left us here and we set off again to smiles and a few waves through Manningtree and on to East Bergholt where we stopped again to take a look at the unusual 16th century ''Birdcage'' design in the church grounds where without the funds to complete a church tower the bells had instead been placed inside a birdcage like oak structure on the ground. (sorry no pics of this but I am sure the others will add some).
