Today I have set about turning Fontaine back to a PA. Yep, those stick on indicators had to go. I also whipped of the bumper too, we much prefer her now. Also the eagle that the previous owner had put on her finally flew off....

So, off came the eagle, the bumper and the spot lamps. She then suffered a double detached retina [:0] -

One of the indicators remained. So that came off and some new P700 Halogen lamps went in -

There was only one wire to both the indicator and what was the side lights. The side lights didn't work on the new lamps until I realised it had to be earthed. As you all know, me and anything remotely electrical or mechanical does not go!! I also didn't have my camera with me either so I apologies for the phone camera pics!!

We put the number plate onto her frontage , which nicely hid the eagle markings (we will paint beneath it soon).

And that was that. A 20 min job which took me 5 hours to do!!

She now has some nice halogen lamps, which should help the RAC find us.

One question - the new indicators are now clear bulbed. I assume it was like this originally? Should I buy orange bulbs for it or can I leave it as it is now?

Cheers Woolfy! On the pics where the add on indicators have gone, although it is not quite clear in the pics, the paint underneath is like a sea green. Do you know if this could be its original colour - have you seen it before?

Also, you a good man to ask - the little whole which is now there, whats the best thing to do with it? Will a bit of filler do the job?

I think '65 was the change over year when amber indicators became mandatory, not sure where your Commer fits into that scenario though. Having said that I doubt you'll have a problem. If you do try fitting led bulbs, they look clear but flash amber.

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?
Peggy's got an MOT !!! (not a lie)

you shhould be fine with the clear indicators - my ('62) morris minor had them from new. Very cool if you ask me!

looking good there by the way - i'm playing with moving the number plate down to the bumper as i like the clear front panel look

you could try that if its only a small hole or you could pass the drill through the hole to clear any rust and then weld the hole up, when done grind it flat and skim a little filler over it then rub it down and paint.;)

Close call there Panky, be careful next time what you ask for! I'll let you both know the ebay item number and you can fight for it ;)

She seems to be driving well, so we should be in her on tues!

BMM, I think if you have a bumper then I would have the plate on that. I agree about the clear front panel. We wanted to get rid of the bumper though to see if it allowed a little more air into the engine as overheating is still a major concern with her!

We saw the eagle for about 79p in a shop that has taken over our woolworths in town a few weeks ago. I'll take orders for you all?! ;) We knew it had to go Scott, it was naff although I didn't hate it - just disliked in a loving sort of way!!

I do personally love the clear indicators but do see the benefits of orange, so will investigate further. We wont ever really be driving her in the dark and the clear indicators will only ever be seen by oncoming traffic so we should be ok!

I thought that was the ideal solution. Almost word for word :D;). We will have a word with Uncle Tim and Auntie Chris on Tuesday and ask them what they think is best in relation to the size of whole that has been left! The good news is, we have some paint. Just a few simple welding lessons and equipment and we will be fne [:0]:I If no one is that hungry and the cake I make is baaad then that could be of some use!
