Right, MOT first....booked in for tomorrow at 3pm. Fingers crossed it'll be fine and we can be in attendance on Friday. We should have a day or two to right any wrongs should there be any! But lights have been checked, the doors are fine, washer jets good, horn working again,brakes- well fingers . Spare wheel has been removed. Our major worry is, does the speedometer need to be working?
Back to the weekend. The Journey to Latitude was going well, until we hit the Yankee Doodle Dandy's at the Ok Diner. Eggs, Streaky bacon, Fries, Pancakes and Maple syrup affected the wallet badly. Fontaine was fine and had a short cool down period, so on we went! An hour later and her temp was still what is her normal, however as we hit traffic her idle rpm shot up past 3000 rpm. In traffic, in parked it was worse. We pulled over for an hour which helped, but not much. We started to get going again and after 30 miles pulled in to a petrol station and parked up. At idle we sat at 5000 rpm!!! We switched of very quickly and the engined carried on for a good minute or two! After an hour of resting we looked into the engine bay and i came up with a diagnosis (i hope your proud Tim - the new engine was the most expensive mechanic lessons ever - but they helped!) The screw on the throttle bit (I can be more specific with a photo if it helps) which touches the sticky out metal bit at idle must of turned itself whist driving. We turned it so it was at its shortest length and it idled at 1000 rpm. The engine was hunting a bit but we didn't want to start moving the dizzy as well. But at last we were on our way!!
We got lots of comments on the van whilst we were there which was really nice - but we were stranded within a sea of roughly 12 billion VW's. It was ridiculous, there was so many!!
We got the gas working on the fridge whch was a treat and started her up, without a problem everyday.
The day we left....grrr. She started up fine, but then i thought it best to check the water levels. We topped her up and then nothing. She would not start. The starter motor clonked, then it sounded like the battery was dead...it wasn't until Cara threatened to have a go that she sprung in to life!!
20 mins down the round and disaster struck. The temp gauge went beserk and steam filled the cab. Second diagnosis - the pipe to the oil cooler had come off! Thankfully i could get under the van to refit it and tighten the clip whilst cara could refill her...and away we went again!!
PHEW.
