And the proud owners of a new MOT are......
Only one advisory- and to our surprise it wasn't 'sell the van'! It was for an offside front wheel bearing which has slight play. The only other thing they said was to spray the rear suspension leafs with oil as its a tad rusty. And also they were a little concerned with it sitting at almost 2000 rpms still! The running on of the engine is horrendous, if we can't get it looked into before friday we are a little unsure of the long journey. We must use twice as much petrol!!

very many congratulations for MOT hard earned, good luck with running on problems, maybe the engine's so enthusiastic enjoying the chance to be out & about again it doesn't want to stop

i have vague memories of reading somewhere that you,re not supposed to oil leaf springs, a better idea is throw them in the skip
you still need to get the timing sorted, its over advanced which isn,t helping things. nurse her to the meet and we will sort it out well done on the mot [8D]

I used Denso tape on the springs on the Minor as I was fed up with them being rusty all the time, and oil is a bit messy. Seems to work fine as far as I can tell..

interesting one that...... did some classic restoration work experience in college days and was told it was important to keep springs oiled and moving properly to stop 'em locking up and eventually snapping which seemed to make some sense at the time. Perfectly possible that it's wrong of course so interesting to learn more [8)]

interesting one that...... did some classic restoration work experience in college days and was told it was important to keep springs oiled and moving properly to stop 'em locking up and eventually snapping which seemed to make some sense at the time. Perfectly possible that it's wrong of course so interesting to learn more [8)]

Thanks for the link Rupert, looks like oil itself is a no no. That graphite spray is pretty cheap aswell panky.
I'm attacking the rust on the cab floor today, have had the wire brush out and now putting a bit of rust killer to get the final bits. Should get a coat of Hammerite down tonight as well too.... and maybe some photos for you chris

Your not joking - 8 hrs to dry!!
Well i'm one coat down, one to go. By my guestimation i have to do the second coat at about 3am and not sleep OR get some sleep but do the 2nd coat at 5am in order for us to get ready to come. Hmm. Or i could do the 2nd coat when we get back - but i am impatient! Also, my sister has the blimming camera lead so i can not upload the photos- majorly annoyed!

We got back..........JUST>
Getting a tad chuffed off now. Within a mile of leaving the meet a duck decided to fly into us. Thankfully though, no damage, other than to our hearts! We thought you were all throwing bricks at us for leaving early. Chris/Tim - it'll still be there for a sunday roast if you want it.
Then a further 2 miles and the we started sounding like admins v8 - but not as intentional nor as. Lost for words we plouged on. We even managed to get over 38 mph downhill [!].
It was such a struggle and i guess we could of caused more damage limping home, but cara had work. We barely spoke to each other, a knowing look to each other was all we managed. Fontaine is clearly a selfish madam. Tim has worked so so hard on her, we all have and.....words cant describe it. We thought it was the exhaust blowing- it was that pop pop poping noise i mentioned tim, it just zapped all power. I've just taken her for a drive and when she starts making that noise i need to take my foot off the accelarator and pull the string. Then pedal down and shes alright.
Feeling alot more positive again now. I think we are going to hunt for a manual carb, accelarator cable and hope that that will be the end of it!

P.s, as i just turned into the drive a car went passed with SBH in her number plate. Bizzare.
