what difference does it make to the cost? anyone asked them?

hi chris, when i swapped my engine it did,nt affect the cost, im pretty sure they classed it as a practical mod. i think it only bumps the cost up if its a performance mod? :)

interesting to find out - am interested to find out if LPG conversion would cause insurance problems

Interesting, did you do conversions yourself and then take somewhere to get tested for certificate? or did you have to get qualified dude to fit to certify?

Am not sure how my Classic policy would react to modifications - it seems a lot more restrictive than normal insurance[V] - is why it's cheaper I guess:)

All ours came converted/factory, but one of our local installers will supply the gear and then test it after its been fitted.
 
has any body done a gas conversion on a commer?

Just read this topic i have a commer highwayman with a LPG conversion ! it was the one from the lakes i bought her off ebay last August.
Not been on the road much with her (Betty) only drove her home to Hull from Lake Windermere ran out of gas on the way so had to run her on petrol been carrying out some bodywork etc hope fully back on the road in a few months

Ive had insurance from Adrian FLUX for nearly a year although she hasnt turned a wheel thought it was best incase she set alite or some thing happened on the drive, i did mention the LPG but it didnt seem to make any differance . I pay £180 a year fully comp with windsceen cover etc I'm 40 with a clean licence.

Will be posting some Photos in the next few months with her all finished

visa or barcley card!:( i had quote for my van with a 200bhp conversion £560 third party fire n theft, they,d only insure it with a disc brake coversion to the swines![:(!]
 
Vented discs will be also included in my conversion at the front and even larger drums on the rear.

Since the original posting . I did an LPG convertion my self (parts of ebay) had it certified and tested. sent the V5 back to DVLA or a change of fuel type (now petrol/gas) informed my insuance company RH no problems and no extra priumium :)

We're seriously looking at converting to dual LPG using secondhand bits, on the face of things it seems fairly straightforward and if parts are sourced secondhand then it will very quickly pay for itself.

The main unknown for me at the moment is the mixer, as I'm hoping to switch to an SU HIF6 carb (if I can locate a suitable manifold for the alloy head) and guess I need to find a mixer to match that carb.

We're thinking of siting an LPG tank in place of our water tank on the offside, although it might mean some exhaust mods and heat shielding too (aha, RC40 :D).

How much does the certification process cost ?

Any chance Macker1 that you can post some pics of your installation at some point ?
 
paul, its unlikely you will find a manifold to fit the s.u, so it will mean modifying one to suit, give me a shout when you are ready and i can do that for you :)
