I think there's enough petrol:I, with bubbling sounds from the tank when blowing back down the delivery pipefrom the pump end:)
On the question of the breather from top of tank to filler neck(I was looking for a breather to outside air), would that not be to help protect your Rhythm and Blues when filling up;)[?]
 
Have you blown through the pipe from pump to carb?
Disconnect the pipe from the pump outlet and turn the engine over - does the pump ... er ... pump?

Sounds like the pump is kaput [xx(]
Weaken off the idle mixture to get the CO down ;)

The outer choke cable had jumped out of its seating on the weber (circle) so now the tickover has settled down better.
Turned the idle mixture screw (arrow) 1/2 turn as well:)

Can't find a split in the gaiter but I guess I'll replace it anyway.

The quality of the Unipart is in a different class though, all supple and boot like[^], whereas the old one is plasticy and hard[V]

Dont get the CO reading is now a full 1% lower than last year!
And the HC 100 parts per million lower!

Must of been Tims advise on the mixture screw:)
 
Returning to the commer, blowing down the carb fuel intake seemed a little restricted...

Well blow me down:), looks like we're up and running again...touch wood...
Filled up the float chamber before closing it.
Re-assembled the pump and drew some petrol through over the diaphragm.
Test run fine[^]
Could be an air problem introduced after inspecting the pump filter[?]
 
Looks like we have sprung another leak:(

Temperature was heading into the red so I flicked on the electric fan which made no difference:I
Stopped at Morrisons and the radiator was not hot to the touch. Not freezing weather[?] was my immediate thought, it was empty.
Took nearly 4 pints to fill.

Hi Greg, this looks like a 'classic' Commer feature !

Who's not been squeezing their bulb ? [:0]

If you look at the lowest apex, between the 2 heater flow 'controls' (ie. flaps / doors), there's the stubby remnants on the outlet pipe from the heater 'airbox' itself (between the heater unit & the front grill). This should be attached to the vertical rubber tube just below it :(

Basic principle is, that any water entering the front top grill inlet from outside should drain away before getting to the heater unit.

Below the vehicle the rubber drain tubing end in a 'bulb' terminal which is supposedly to prevent fume/insect ingress into the cab. Unfortunately over time these drain bulbs harden and get full over cr@p and block up which unless they're squeezed regularly (& they're in a god awful location) results in the whole drain backing up with water and eventually rotting the airbox etc away.

With luck your airbox might only need a small repair on its outlet pipe and a new, softer drain pipe to restore its original function. Afraid it looks like some water has been getting into your heater unit at some point though, judging by the rust along its bottom edge.

Suggest further investigation is required around the airbox, heater unit & front grill inlet.

If the heater unit is internally rotten, it can be replaced, some NOS come up from time to time for not much but some on the forum have replaced their original heater unit with one from a mini.

Big question here, is whether your airbox (which mates the heater unit to behind the front top grill inlet) is beyond repair - otherwise some more creation solutions are required
