Drip...drip...drip...

That smaller higher one does look a bit iffy, but it will have to wait untill our full set arrives from Speedys.

Removed the obvious one, looks only a small hole:I Would possibly weld up[)]

coreplug003.jpg

This replacement feels ever so slightly bigger so its into the freezer first:)

Managed to remove the build-up of crud in the water jacket, below the core plug and between cylinders 3/4, with a made up scoop and wire then flushing out with plenty of water.

Anyone know if this much is normal then[?] (and some got washed away into me lawn:I)

No matter how much you poo get out there always seems to be more[V]
Keep flushing, if you haven't already replaced the core plug then stick the hose in the hole and swill it about.

Summer's here.....

Just taken the hose out of said hole:)

Aaah...lovely tight fit, bit akward with the dip stick tube there though:)

Will have to remove more plugs to properly clean out the water jacket all round though;)

Nice one Greg. Harvey was still running a bit warm even after a good flushing so I gave him the Radflush treatment. This shifted even more poo and did improve things but even now the coolant is still a bit brownish:I

Finally re-fitted the gearbox again and all the rest of it:) and returned shot clutch cover to Speedy's for restoration.
Even remembered the spot of grease on the flywheel bush;)
Round the block and the clutch action/feel is great. Along with a steering/suspension grease-up whilst laid-up and she's bang on again[^]

Then this happens[xx(]

fuelfilter001.jpg

Phew, only snakeskin on the fuel filter, easy clean:)

fuelfilter002.jpg

Must be the time of year:I

Just checked again this morning and there's some more:I

fuelfilter.jpg

Apparently, an older snake may shed its skin only once or twice a year, but a younger, still-growing snake, may shed up to four times a year[:0];)

And a Commer does it daily :D
Thought about a nice shiney new tank Greg [?];)

"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Must admit the thought did cross the mind:)

And it could do with a clean:I

fueltank.jpg

But a NOS tank might have one of them younger, still-growing snakes[:0];)

I think Tim was talking about one of his ally ones!

Spare a Commer Guv?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Ally tank:p

However, I only cleaned off the filter and replaced the cover, honest guv:)
Started up, reversed off the drive and engine stopped, refusing to restart on cranking:(
Rolled back onto drive and after a short interval returned and she fired up and behaved for a nice 25 mile round trip in sundays heat:)
Checked the filter again today and replaced the cover....same problem:(
Theres petrol in the tank but none coming through here[xx(]

Skakeskin's favourite[xx(] - or your pump could be goosed:)

Removed fuel pump and no more snakeskin presently:)
Close inspection shows the diaphragm to be tight and sound

fuelpump001.jpg

Valves seem to open and close as they should (yuc petrol in the mouth[xx(])

fuelpump002.jpg

Lever moves the diaphragm...
Blows clear back to the tank.
Seems okay to me, perhaps it needs priming after cleaning[?]

Checked the pipe between pump and carb for blockages?

Not unheard of to be blocked back at the tank, get yer bike pump out
Oops you did that already[8)]

Fine and dandy, no kinks, passes wind:I

Also, can't see how the tank is vented, but looks like the locking filler cap would leak air...

Pour a dribble of petrol down the carb to get it going - that should drag the fuel through.

The vent joins the filler neck about 3" from the top,the cap must pass a certain amount or you would pull a vaccuum eventually.

Have you actually got enough fuel in the tank Greg :I[?]
