Drip...drip...drip...

We run a manually switched electric pusher fan on the front of the radiator for winter use but find this inadequate for summer and recently re-bolted on the fixed fan to the water pump.
This may well have been the last straw for the poor thing:(

Peggy has both standard and electric fans. Electric is a Kenlowe with a thermostatic switch and manual over-ride switch. With the current weather I think I'll leave it as-is. I was going to remove the engine fan to free up a few BHP and quieten it down.

Peggy can do 78mph!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

I would just ditch the engine fan. it is only effective when stopped, and a properly working electric fan should cope with heat dispersement well enough

That's how Harvey operates, the fan is off an Escort torbo diesel and is nice and powerful. It only comes on when idling and if pushed hard up a big hill. Fitting the air scoop lower down made a big difference as the fan would cut in now and then when driving normally with the standard set up.

Just removed the water pump:

Yes there's play in the bearing, but also the impeller inside is not tight on the shaft to the point where I can turn the fan end whilst finger holding the impeller, easily.

Does this mean the impeller is shot and the pump beyond a rebuild[?]

Are shafts and impellars available? If the main body is OK it maybe worthwhile renewing all the internals.
Hmmm Speedies don't list them but it doesn't mean they don't have them.

Looks like the impeller is plastic on this one:

Still had a rebuild in mind though...

...untill I started prodding around with a screwdriver[:0]

...because the eldest won't take her big artwork on the bus and it has to be in today:I:)

Have been considering an electric water pump...

...but then there's cost/originality/mpg/hassle/'other jobs need doing' to be mindful of:I

Working on the KISS principle...

... and, well one has to treat her occasionally;)

Shiny new one:I:

Should blend in soon:)

Right, after a few days running, it's nice to return to a predictable and seemingly reliable cooling system:)
Haven't gone above 2/3 into the white section on the temperature gauge yet:)
Thank you Motaquip;)

Yer fan belts too tight, slacken your belt and let things hang loose. If ya dont youll be buying another water pump when you replace the alternator [}:)]

Well that clutch lasted all of two months[xx(]
Slipping to the point of hardly being able to reverse off the drive:(
Just gone too weak I guess.

So here's her shiny new Borg and Beck from Speedy's[^]

Judging by the wear on the center piece that could be the original;)

Nice fit[8D]

Hang on a minute:I

Whats that orange streak:([?]

Oops, another one gone behind the starter motor[xx(]

That one and the one behind the flywheel seem to be the weakest ones, mine were the same[V]
Easy to do and cheap, do the lot if you can.
