Dozers V6

we've been looking into having LPG coversion fitted on Wilma and have come up with these results:
cost: £500ish if you do it yourself
£1000- £2000 if you get it done by professionals
doing it yourself is cheaper but often problematic as it can be difficult to set timing/engine up to run well, and you have no one to go back to should it all go pear shape.
Will the cost of having the conversion done by professionals be worth it if you are only going to do a few hundred miles a year?
LPG is becoming more popular and is fairly easy to get but is also going up in price, We've decided not to go ahead at the moment and see if we do the sort of miles that would justify having her converted. If we do, we'll go for the professional option so we'll have a guarentee etc, as we know a few friends who have had problems doing it themselves, I'm not intending to try and put you off just to let you know what we discovered when we asked about, cheers Jayne[:X] [:X]

Hi Jayne,

this is exactly the kind of thing I need to hear...

The price of fitting it against the cost of miles we actually do is also a valid debate.

Look forward to hearing what others think also.

Cheers

Absolutely - Payback for the kit is crucial! My total kit cost about £250 - mostly second hand! LPG from the pump is about half the price of fuel - so for me to pay for the kit at a difference of say 60p a litre took 416 litres of fuel. That’s 91 Gallons of fuel to use before my kit pays for itself. Now the v6 does about 20mpg at speed (which is mostly how it cruises on the distances) so I had to do 1831 miles for payback. I did 4000 miles on my big trip so I had it paid back by the time I got to Italy! I'll get some photo's uploaded soon to show the gas conversion.
