Hi here's a few more photos of my slow progress. Engine bay now painted and the front half unsealed with Buzzweld War, now ready for the subframe and engine to be refitted before then sending the van away for prep and painting.

Here's an update on my slow progress with the Dormobile project. Subframe and all the front suspension painted and refitted, brakes refitted with new wheel cylinders and brake pipes. New monroe d5464 adventure shockers fitted to the front. Engine refitted and eventually got it running after plenty of problems, like finding out the valve timing was a tooth out and the distributor drive was in wrong and having to push the camshaft out the back of the engine to drop the timing chain off to correct the timing as the crank gear wouldn't come off. Finding out oil feed valve to the cam chain was blocked solid. (the engine was rebuilt before I got it but never ran) I treated it to some new core plugs as the rear ones were rotten and pressure washed the rusty silt and casing sand from around no.4 cylinder to help with water circulation.
Thanks to Martin M for his help and advice as always.
Next job is to start repairing bodywork before painting.

Amazing...is that the motor from Luke’s van? Colour v familiar - was interested in that :)
No the motor came with the van but had never been refitted or ran. The van was originally pale blue but the colour I've gone for in volvo rebel blue and I'm thinking about cream for the top half.

Hi Jeremy I hope you do get yours finished, as it looks like it's going to be a cracking interior and it could give me some inspiration for mine as the Dormobile commers with the side door are quite rare.

Ah thought it would’ve been fetched and installed quick as it only sold last week. Good work picking up on the timing nightmare problem to have

Had a few bits away to the blasters and they all returned in one piece even the heater box..! not bad after 43 years..!

Here's a update on my slow process on the Dormobile, it's been away at a mates to get some welding repairs done as I couldn't find the time to do it..! and it's booked in for paint at the end of the month.
I was wondering if anyone knew how many Dormobile Commers are left??
Also does anyone know if they is much different between the VW Dormobile cabinets and the ones for a Commer as mine didn't come with interior and I'd like to try and keep it original if at all possible.

I have no idea if they’re the same. You could start with trying to find plans of Vw interior and hopefully someone on here can supply Commer plans to compare. If very similar and you can’t make furniture yourself a Vw restorer may have the patterns and can tweak them to fit?
