Dolly The Autosleeper

yh. im only using the self tappers to make sure it all fits and get a feel for how it all go's, its all coming back off so i can clean it all up and use rust converter where needed (probably everywhere lol) im hoping to fit the rest over the next couple of days, and make up the inner sill for the wheel arch. im hoping to do it without the bend but a lip to give enough room to get the wheel off :) im at the point now where im really enjoying seeing it coming together bit by bit lol. what did you get done today then?

Ok so on with dolly [^] I tried (unsuccessfully) to make a section of rear inner sill with the twist for the rear wheel arch :( But then i tried my other idea and i think it may just work out nicely [^]

The only problem is that i noticed the rear outriggers are slightly longer than the jacking points [?] im now a tad confused [B)] does the inner sill run straight along the van [?] or does it sit slightly further out at the rear [?] am i evan making any sense :D

The inner sill runs straight except for the kick-out at the rear wheel arch, Have a look at Martin's diagram.

PANEL%20DIA800.jpg

I've just been out and had a measure - both are 17.5 inches from the inner sill to the main chassis rail.

Nice awning by the way;)

that is strange, i measured the passenger side rear outrigger then made the drivers side the same lengh, but it seems to sit about an inch further out. i will have to double check tomorrow. worst way i can just cut them down abit i suppose. the spot welds for the inner sill seam to run in a line about 1.5-2 inches in from the edge of the floor. but the new outrigger only sits about 1 cm from the edge.

so i had to much to do today so no real progress but i did pop out and check the outrigger situation the new outrigger is 17.5 inches long same as yours john :I so i know its the right length. i think it may just be my eyes [:0]

so here is my rear jacking point :) or whats left of it [B)]

and here is the new section on the rear corner. it just seems to sit awfully tight to the edge :( looking at whats left of the other side it looks the same, the inner sill runs about 1.5-2 inches in all the way along. but the corner seems to sit tight to the outer sill with only a small gap. im thinking my best bet is to get it all in position then offer up the outer sill and see how it looks.

Don't worry you're not loosing it, the inner sill is straight until the rear corner and the outriggers are the same length - it's the outer panels that curve inwards. Look down the side of the van and you will see that they aren't flat but are a gentle compound curve[8D]

aha. im not crazy [8D] at least not as crazy as i thought :D didnt see how i could measure so many times and still get it wrong ;) on the plus side. its been raining all day and its still nice and dry in my shelter [^] hoping to get everything in place over the next couple of days. its getting exciting now. people keep popping over to see how things are progressing and the guy that runs my local classic club has already askes if i would be willing to display dolly at a couple of shows. long way off but its a nice thought :)
