Well I set the garden hose up with a reducer down to a 4mm hose which gave a good jet and enabled me to feed it right up, around and through the water jacket from that core plug hole. The gunk seems to have been particularly built up in the bottom back corner where I removed that (only really scummy looking) core plug. I realise there might well be pockets of scum sat undisturbed but I gave it a 'good agitation' for half an hour from 'all areas' with the hose and the water runs clear... that was tough to type and not sound dodgy.
But... one quite major thing I found was the heater matrix feed out of the water pump was completely blocked solid with scale. I know a major oversight which I should have found earlier but with that seemed such good flow looking into the radiator I was not focusing on the other bits of the system nor had a desire to start pulling the pump apart
. Now that increased flow I'm thinking is upped pressure due to blockage in matrix loop??
Anyway tomorrow it's one more flush and reassemble - fingers crossed, got a hire on Saturday
