It's on the list of things to do
Apart from sweating and toiling getting things ready for you lot at Commerfest I actually had some time to spend on Harvey sorting out a few jobs. The first one was to fit an extension to the air scoop under the rad, I made this out of a piece of 1/16" Oilite jointing I had laying around, it's flexible, strong and weather proof so was ideal for the job. A dead simple fix just four self tappers holding it to the original scoop and the other end butted up to the bottom of the rad so all the scooped-up air would be pushed through the rad. By jove it works[^] After adjusting the carb a 1/4 turn on the mixture screw (it seemed a bit lean) I went for a test run along the local by-pass - about eight miles foot to the floor and the temp stayed down and the lekky fan stayed off. It cut in when I came off the by-pass onto side roads (well it would:I) but the engine runs noticeably cooler. I won't say how far above the legal limit I was travelling but as I have only 3/4 throttle travel I think I could push that a fair bit more.
The rest of the jobs were niceties, the roofrack that came with Harvey was cleaned up (it's stainless so didn't need much[8D]) but unfortunately mild steel ends that fit into the gutters had rotted badly[V] Luckily I had an old roofrack off the Mini and filched the ends off that - they fitted a treat[^]
For Harvey's recent camping trips we have relied on bottled water as I ripped the old underfloor tank out (scabby[xx(]) but now he has a new set up consisting of an external Aquaroll type container with a submersible pump doing the business. This was after I fitted a 'leisure' battery (borrowed off the Mini:I) and re-routed the wiring, originally off the main battery, to a position under the bench behind the drivers seat. I was going to fit a split charger relay but the instructions where vague to say the least - Bernie to the rescue who agreed that the instructions somewhat confusing and took it away to figure out how to fit it - I think it will be a Saturday afternoon job at Commerfest to wire it in:I
Also started to brighten up the roof and upper interior lining - have you tried vinyl silk emulsion for this - it works a treat[^]
Still a few bits and bobs to do before the big day and more to do afterwards but Harvey will be there - warts and all[8D]
See you there
