Back of the garage

I leave you alone for a few days and you give me two pages to catch up on! Well done Panky! As far as the wiring goes, the relay can be tested on the bench with a battery, Can't remember where to connect what but it should give a good clunk when its live. As far as I remember one of hte outputs on my (second hand) relay failed, but there were two so I just doubled up one of the connectors. Also I don't think it worked very well when I first starting playing with it but after using it a few times it got better (that never happens!)

Don't get too excited and rush things - we don't want any accidents! I found loads of screws I had forgotten to tighten properly on Molly when I was getting her ready for the MOT. Like the gear lever for example:I

Give me a shout if you want me to scan the wiring diagram for the relay again.

cheers

Rupert

Thanks Rupert - I've still got your guide, I'll do some comparison with the one out of the manual.
The only difference I can see between my relay and the wiring diagram is that the diagram has a C4 terminal where mine is C3 - but everything else is the same.

I actually read the manual - the bit about tracing faults on the OD circuit - but my head couldn't cope so I crawled underneath Harvey with a wire brush and gave the area that used to lurk behind the water tank a good seeing to. Pretty good results in the fact I didn't rub through any of the under-body - so I sloshed the Aquasteel around every bit of bare metal I could find - good stuff. I wasn't happy with one of the brake pipes I had made - it looked a little tight so I made a new one with the swaging kit Macker1 lent me (cheers jimmy)
I'm not sure I like the look of the rear jacking points - even though they support the van fine, they do look a bit crusty. I think I'll leave them for now and carry a trolley jack around for a while:I

So, how much closer are you for having 2 weeks off?

About 2days :I

So do I - but there still seems a long way to go. Handbrake cable is off and soaking in paraffin and petrol at the moment to try and ease it's sluggish travel - just another little thing that slows it all up[V]. But I guess if I stood back and compared what he looks like now to this time last week I would be fairly satisfied:I
Started chucking filler at Harvey's nose - to give his rhinoplasty a little make-over:I

Not long to go compared to what has gone before:)

No work today - went to a car show at Tatton park. Weather was perfect cars were superb, bacon and sausage barms were scoffed, auto jumble was good - forgot camera :I
Macker1 and Miamac were there in Dora and the Gladys Crew were also in attendance with their local club - won't be hearing from them tonight as the are staying over.
Did the convertible win the best interior Heidi ;)

The 'Blitz' continues :I

As I mentioned before the master cylinders are in remarkably good condition with only seal kits needed to bring them back into service. For those who have never delved into the delights of master cylindery before - this is what you should find (or something bearing a close resemblance)

Brake master in bits

Clutch master cylider

Clutch MS back in place all nice and clean.

Sill waiting for the new kit for the brake cylinder to arrive then that will get the same treatment.
While I was grovelling around (I do a lot of that:I) I noticed the steel pipe that runs from the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder was particularly grotty looking, the brake pipe from the MS to the 'T' piece inside the engine compartment looked a bit suspect as well[xx(]

DCP_8857.jpg

The middle bit used to be the one piece section that ran along the chassis but had completely corroded through - and it didn't take much persuasion for the brake pipe to come apart, that's the bottom pipe in the pic[:0]
I made up a new brake line with Macker1's swaging kit and bought a metre of reinforced hydraulic hose from a local supplier - a perfect length, no more rusty steel pipe and only cost a couple of quid[^]

You can just see the new hose in this pic

All those years ago when I took the cab doors off to repair I had to drill out two stubborn screws[V]

DCP_8850.jpg

Finally got round to drilling them out and re-tapping the holes. Notice bolt in place to keep the captive plate still while I did the business

Last little job was to re-make the trunking that holds the wiring running from the engine compartment to front panel - the original had rotted out good and proper [xx(]

Aha! there was a Harvey under there somewhere, fantastic to see interior and its' undies on the washing line :I:D that tea & toast was well earned[^]

Love the thought of Quo mice, have visions of some little paws on air guitar in there :D

Sure in the home straight now :p:p:p

Bessie - four star commerdation

Been tinkering about with a few things today. I had a thought that the MOT man might have something to say about only one exhaust hanger so I fitted a Halfords strap type one just in front of the first silencer. Turned out to be a perfect length [^]
How much filler do you waste[V] I skimmed the repairs to the peak and rear roof section and had the sander out trying to get the profile right - about 90% must have ended up as a dust layer on everything outside, and inside, the van and its still not right. Must learn to be a bit more economical with the stuff:I
I'd had enough of rubbing down and needed a bit of light relief - I wondered if the fridge still worked, it was never very good. It's a gas only one and no amount of flicking the igniter wheel would light the flame[V] so out came the fridge. After stripping all the pipes off the last bit to check was the little pilot jet nozzle under the diffuser - no hole showing as I held it up to the light. Its a tiny hole and even the prongs on a conventional wire brush are too thick to use as a reamer so I rooted around and found a little circular wire brush (it still had some of my hair embedded in it[V]) the wire was much finer and that did the trick. The fridge went back in and the flame lit fist flick of the wheel, I can't remember it ever being so stable and strong - I guess it must have been blocked for a while:I I checked the inside of the fridge after half an hour and the ice tray was definitely starting to get frosted - one thing I'll have to fit is a flue kit - the amount of condensation on the side window from the vent in the worktop above the fridge was very surprising [:0]
Another reason to crack on and get him finished now - cold beer :p
