But this worked [:(!]

I'll just post pics this time and explain later

Davies Craig electric water pump (EWP)

Goes in here

Need to mod original (leaking) pump

Will need to blank casing off with a bolt and plate - I'll hopefully make that up tomorrow if earning a living doesn't get in the way:I

cool stuff panky :p but i think i need to warn you of a potential problem that we had on the Riley.
the heater return hose needs to be on the suction side of the pump, otherwise the pump tends to try and force water back into the heater and it causes a stalemate and no heater [xx(] see what i mean [?]

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Are you going to get stuck in this weekend or are you going to stay up chatting to me until 2 in the morning lol

HHHmmmmmmmmm.davies craig waytogo Panky:p:p:p:p:p:p:p[^][^][^][^][^][^][^];);););)
My mate's got one of them on his imp with kenlow fan and front mounted rad piped in 28mm copper. That bugger don't overheat!!![}:)].
they recon you can gain 12-15 bhpby getting rid of all the original stuff.
back to my "rootes"

I'll be doing a bit no doubt :) Still time for minight (and beyond) nattering.

It's only fresh underneath and the doors have been restored at the moment.Unfortunately i've neither the time or money to spend also i want to use it before the summer[?] has gone[B)]

Well I thought everything was going too well:I The installation of the EWP is straight forward enough and because I had moved the rad forward to make way for the lekky fan there was plenty of room. While the old pump is no longer required the body needs to remain in place it needs to be blanked off where the bearings and seal once was.

A blanking off kit

Trouble is it didn't work as the washer was too thin and buckled. I couldn't find anything thicker so I went a different way.

A rubber bung with a bolt through the middle - tighten the bolt - the bung expands and one blocked off water pump.

So not to dead-end the pump when the engine is cold a slight mod to the thermostat is required.

5mm hole

Everything bolted back on - system filled with water and the pump wired in and switch on. A gentle humming from the pump and the flow even through the small hole was quite impressive. The I noticed the drip, bugger, not coming from a hose but from the pump seal.

I ran the pump for about 20 minutes hoping that it would bed-in and again with the thermostat out - but no joy[V]

So much for my ebay bargain I've contacted the seller but not yet heard anything back.

Macker1 paid me a visit on Friday and we spent some time making up a few brake pipes with his pipe flaring kit - and a mighty fine job it made of them. Also sorted out a problem I had with my new clutch slave cylinder - the new one had a smaller hose connection so it was either buy a new cylinder, change the pipe or try something different:I

You know me - I did something different.

The pipe on the right is original size and on the left the smaller new cylinder connection.

Run a drill up the larger bore pipe and solder the two together and the old and the new are one.

So some small successes today - but one big bummer[xx(]

What bad luck! [B)] I hope that there is some way the pump can be repaired. If it's not a sealed unit, then maybe the company sells spare seals, or maybe you could make your own?

Could it be leaking because it's trying to force all that water through a 5mm hole, which is really ramping up the pressure? In practice, would the pump be running before the thermoastat begins to open??

I tried running it without the stat and it was no better, I even took it out and filled it with water and it dripped even then[V]. I bought it as new and unused and followed the instructions to fit it without speed or temperature control and, because it isn't a positive displacement pump, the pressure shouldn't get too high anyway, they are built for flow not pressure.
I'm a bit hacked off but I hope I'll get a refund and I'll just have to pay full price for a new one - no turning back now :I

Bummer. I just hope the seller comes good - another potential shortcoming of eBay. I returned faulty goods once and never got my money back, talk about double blow. So beware and use recorded delivery for peace of mind.
