Hopefully you've all picked yourselves up off the floor after after laughing at my cod piece and are ready for my next masterpiece :I
Harvey, like many of his kind, is in need of a rhinoplasty. What to do - bodge it up and blank off the heater intake or have a go at doing a 'proper' job. I decided try and fix it and gave Harvey some attention with a disc cutter [:0]
The heater box is held in with half a dozen screws around the opening and two bolts inside the cab - there was no way the screws were going to shift so the lot had to come out in one.
Grott abounds, no wonder water was getting into the cab. A lesson to us all - squeeze your bulbous end on a regular basis:I
Four bolts to remove to separate the fan/matrix assembly from the air inlet box
To reveal the full extent of the damage
A kit of parts - a couple of pop rivets held what was left of the closing flaps hinge in place.
A bit of fabbing and welding.
I'm thinking that it is going to be very difficult to seal the complex joint around the drain properly, so I'll coat the inside with a sealant to plug all the holes in my repair. It could be possible to turn the whole thing upside, down so the original and intact top of the air box forms the basis for a new drain, I would need to re-position the fixing brackets, flap hinges and hole for the operating rod - but it would look a neater job...hmmmm (thinks

)
