Back of the garage

They look very similar to the RC40 in construction - the round one was £19 and the oval one £23, hopefully if this works out it may be a cheaper, if not more awkward to fit, alternative :) But then I am starting off with the Rapier twin bore as an added complication:I

'Harvey the RV'

That's blown my theory out of the water[V]
How come I miss all these things:I

'Harvey the RV'

its now nesting nicely under the j4 :p
they do crop up on the bay, its just finding the local ones ;)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Believe me I've looked and I wasn't going to pay daft money from the Mini shops[:0] hey ho you never know I might be creating the next generation Commer performance exhaust - the JP40 [8D]

'Harvey the RV'

Beavering away in BOTG to finish the exhaust. Not the straightest system in the world but I tried to follow the original rout as far as possible - and it is straight thro' - if a bit bendy :I

Compared with the original I reckon it's an improvement

The system in place ( with bungee cords and string:I)

Held in place with my rather beautiful new exhaust mounting [^] Still got to fit a tailpipe support but I can't get to that side yet[V] but once I've moved Harvey around it will be an easy job.

While I was under there I tried the speedo cable and guess what - it was the right length but unfortunately the connections differ between Commer and Rapier gearboxes - but I have a plan and it doesn't involve a new cable :)

'Harvey the RV'

that looks pretty good panky [^] nicely tucked away too, should work a treat, so long as the string is fireproof ;)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Doncha just luvvit when a plan comes together[^]
I sprayed the string with fire retardant stuff:I. Pitty the engine isn't running yet - I can't wait to hear what it sounds like - next weekend maybe :p

'Harvey the RV'

That looks like a very neat job indeed, good work!

Has anyone fitted the large bore single box version of the RC40 system to a Commer? The sound beautiful when fitted on Minis!

sure have, found it a little too noisy on long trips with just the single box :)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

While I was underneath Harvey the speedo cable started to annoy me - there it was dangling forlornly - the right length but the thread on the OD box drive didn't match the one on the cable.

Commer gearbox drive adapter

OD box drive adapter

A bit of adapter adapting required. A few minutes on the lathe (in work - not mine:I) and job done.

Fitted in place. The cable is a wee bit long so I might end up wearing the outer cable away but we'll see how it goes

access to a lathe makes life sooooooo much easier for these problems [^] i shudder to think how i would survive without one [:0]

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

You bet I can't wait :p There are so many things I've done (and so many more to come;))and poor old Harvey hasn't turned a wheel - something will catch me out for sure. Must remember to put oil in the gearbox - someone remind me before I fire it up :I

It's a lovley little lathe in work too - it would fit nicely at the back of the back of the garage :p

'Harvey the RV'

If I move out some of the junk - er sorry - assembled spares stash and useful stuff:I
Alternatively I could extend or maybe put it in here [}:)]
