Sudden loss of power? - nothing happens when you pull No2 and No3 plug lead off? - no compression on those two cylinders?
Bugger[xx(]

Not a very good close up of the 1/8" of head gasket burnt away between middle two cylinders[V]

I used a copper gasket as well, have I got it the right way up - copper side on top.

It was marked but a quick rub with sand paper (I reckoned it would be less abrasive to the metal :I) and all seems OK. Still puzzled why it should have gone so soon though,

poor min :( its certainly the right way up, its a fairly common problem with A&B series lumps when tweaked. check the block deck is flat as well as the head and perhaps change the studs :)

Am I the most accident prone person I know - that anyone knows, I suspect I am. Full of enthusiasm I set about fitting a shiny new head gasket, removed studs to make sure the block surface could be properly cleaned up and checked with a straight edge and feeler gauges that the surface was nice and flat. An so on to the head again cleaned up luverly and surface perfect and I decide to clean up the combustion chambers with my spanking new drill and a small circular wire brush - this is where it all went horribly wrong[V] I was wearing (almost) all the correct PPE - overalls, safety boots, gloves and glasses as I bent over the job to get a good look and fired the drill up, those of you who have met me know that I wear my hair tied back and a stray lock of my luscious tresses must have come free of my pony tail and fallen forward - the next thing I knew was the drill hit me hard in the face. A little stunned I watched the drill slow down and stop and to my horror saw it was choked with my hair. The results of the incident are two deep grazes where the wire brush and chuck had a race to get to my skull first and a good handful of hair ripped from my already thinning hairline - right in the middle of my forehead, and a dent in my pride big enough to park a Highwayman. I said almost all my PPE - I guess I forgot my hat and ironically enough I started my new job last week - amongst other things I am now the Safety Manager. When I think of what could have happened I shudder - if a high speed wire brush and an eye ball met there would only be one winner. I hope I have learned my lesson and will be much more careful in future - and for all you hairies out there - get a hat.

oh my god panky thats horrible. i hope you are ok mate and not to shaken up by the incident. like you say these things can happen so easily and when your least expecting it. last week i was using a knoted wire wheel fitted into a grinder and was trying to get rid of some surface rust patches on basses camper, i also had goggles ect on whilst i was doing it,things were going great right up to the moment when i tried to get into a tight space with it, the wire wheel caught on a sharp edge and suddenly jammed, in a flash the grinder lept from my hands and then back into them again only the wrong way up , luckily i dropped it again in a flash and only suffered a few scratches from the wire wheel ,this however was due to luck more than judgement. i then had to jump up and turn the grinder off at the plug ,as i couldnt pick it up because of it jumping all over the place. i thought that i had a luck escape to start off with ,and then i felt something wet on my face just below my eye on my cheek bone, i went to rub it and got a sharp shock in my face, it was a peice of wire from the wheel about half an inch long that had shot off and hit me right in the face, i dread to think what might of happened if i didnt have my goggles on and it went in my eye itself. but hey we are both still here to tell the tale. the joys of commer restoration hey.;)[B)]

You and me both very lucky - I'm still trembling and the grazes on my head are starting to tighten and sting. Before I do another thing I am going to tidy my workspace - I'm not going to hurt myself again tripping over something.

The worst thing was getting my hair out of the wire brush so I could finish the job[V]

ouch!!!!![:0] not nice at all, and very very lucky, could have been awful.
Reminded me of the guy at the new forest with the VW, he had long hair when fiddling with the engine and a few loose strands were very close to the alternater belt as it was spinning

Hope you are feeling better soon Panky :)

Cazz... student commerade!!!!

oooh sounds sore!
glad you finished the job though!

I have 2 big scars on my fingers where I managed to angle grind them
.... I had removed the guard from the angle grinder (eejit) to get into a small corner and it had gone through my gloves and part of my finger before I noticed.

hang in there chap. Hopefully we'll be able to show off scars over a bottle of merlot at the next meet (and let Jessica meet Harvey!)

eeekkk [:0] i know the feeling only to well :I having been bitten by grinders on several occasions and caught up in a lathe(i still have the scar), this is why i always wear a hat.
probably happened because you did,nt submit the correct method statement and cone off the street beforehand, i suggest a lawsuit against he drill manufacturer and B.L.
i just hope the mini did,nt suffer too much :D
take care panky :)

Ouch! I suspect we have all had a few near misses, but that sounds a bit too near. Thank you for sharing it with us, I have certainly learnt a few lessons from reading these pages, although hair is not one of my problems, just a memory.

I hope this has not dampened your enthusiasm, I have been following your thread with interest.

I do risk assessments and method statements every day as part of my real job but if you applied the same logic at home you would never get anything done. I need to learn some common sense and start to appreciate what I have a bit more:I that way I might be in one piece to see Harvey on the road,
