Back of the garage

Oh yes - dropped the gearbox and got the engine ready for lifting out while I was waiting for Santa and then had a blitz on the roof on Saturday afternoon. I'm going to tackle the peak this weekend - feeling very brave :I. Unfortunately more pics of progress will follow:D.

look forward to it - will be a much better set of progress photos than I can provide at the moment for Bessie[V]:I

Bessie - four star commerdation

I don't know about the Three Peaks Challenge - one is enough for me. Full of enthusiasm I started poking and prodding at the infamous overhang.

How annoying - a bit of rot[xx(]

And some more[V]
I looked up[xx(]

A bit more exploring revealed a dodgy repair from long ago (yes it was me)

Oh sod it - lets have a proper look

It was at this point after a dash of wire brush and angle grinder that I thought 'Not too bad', slosh a load of rust eater around and a few local repairs but then I looked up again and the hacksaw sorta slipped :I

I can recommend hacking your peak off if you want to build up your biceps. Commer roof metal seems very thick [}:)]

Poor Harvey, now the sun will get in his eyes [8D]
I think he looks sort of surprised[:0]

Oh well who said it would be easy, I think my new mig will get a battering this weekend [}:)]

Yer a very brave man panky. I'm sure it must make it more bearable having Harvey in the garage. I've decided to get all non commer related jobs done today so as i can rip the doors off and give'm a good seeing to in my garage at the weekend ( Thingy WONT fit,GRRR!!) ,hopefully it might get slightly warmer, but at least i'll be able to get something done with the heater on in there ;):)

EEK: What have you started?

When you have repaired the underlying metal, will you be able to reuse the original peak? It looks quite sound. Don't forget to protect your windscreen when welding and grinding. A friend of mine ruined his with the sparks from a grinder. [:0] Am I teaching my Granny to suck eggs? I'll shut up!!! :I

To the best of my knowledge, my Granny never did suck eggs! [}:)]

'It's not a proper slider'

eeek [:0] ye gods, that hacksaw did slip, good luck :I

If you remember, thats the way I did the detector [B)] Whats the gutter like? Might be a good idea if we swapped notes ;) 07711656668

Thanks Martin, it was watching your repair that made me brave (foolish) enough to start cutting. Again the gutter is pretty good for the majority of the peak but some repairs required, it will be a case of letting in small sections and a skim of filler to finish - like the rear roof section. The bit above the drivers side is the worst, I haven't poked too hard around there yet[xx(] but it's got to be done. I'll spend time lining up the peak when I replace it - don't want any frown lines :I

Don't worry Cris:) It's just a flesh-wound. The rest of the old chap is pretty solid - but I am finding more than I bargained for - has any one got a good front engine cover spare, mine has gone quite limp with rust[V] Lace curtains do very little to stop engine noise and fumes:I

Good advise about protecting the screen - I had a mishap with a Mini when I did a scuttle corner repair :I It ate wiper blades after that[xx(] Don't worry about giving advise - this granny finds loads of eggs that have probably been sucked before - but finds all sorts of new ways to breaks them [V]
