Thanks chaps:) He's still in need of attention elsewhere but he's looking a lot happier from the front[8D]

We'll be in Bonnie at the weekend - she's just got a fresh MOT[^]

I've been at it again:) Seems like if I've got any paint I just gotta use it;)
There where a couple of scabs forming under the window seals on Harvey's rear doors and before you know it I'd popped the windows out and revealed a bit of grot[xx(]

Bonnie's brake woes and how a Commer is different to a Jet.

Ever since I adjusted the brakes for the MOT I've been having problems[V] It first manifested itself on a trip to see Bernie and Heidi a couple of days after the MOT when the smell of hot brakes filtered through into the cab, when checked the offside hub was very hot and I put it down to over enthusiastic adjustment. After that the offside was fine and seemed to bed itself in but the nearside started to overheat, so the lot came off and was cleaned up - but still it got hot[xx(] Next thing to try was the flexy hose, luckily I had one in stock as the old one had collapsed internally so could have been acting as a non-return valve and holding the brakes on - but still it got hot. OK then change the wheel bearings - but still it got hot. On closer inspection the linings, although they had plenty of meat on them, where breaking up, probably because of the excess heat generated for long periods, so after a call to Martin M. a new set of shoes and another brake hose for the other side was swiftly delivered in time to get it sorted for the Newbury show last weekend[^] Everything was fine until a few miles from home when the nearside brake started snatching on light pedal pressure in traffic just after a 200 mile trundle up the motorway:( So off it came again, cleaned up, cylinder checked (perfect) and re-assembled. After a 10 mile test run the hub was too hot to touch and grease was bubbling from around the edge of the bearing cap[:0] So what else had changed? The only other thing that I could think of was the grease I'd used when I changed the bearings - a big can of aircraft quality stuff I'd got from an autojumble and had been using on grease nipples for years, but not on bearings. So the hub came off again, bearings removed, cleaned and re-greased using Castrol general purpose stuff - the result after another 10 mile run was a nice cool hub with just a warm bearing cap[^] Just goes to show that although I was using a high quality grease that would probably do an excellent job on a Jumbo jet's door hinges it obviously wasn't meant for Commer bearings:I

Could be a low temp grease as most aircraft parts are more likely to be subject to cold temps. Bit of an odd one though.

Thanks Greg I'll bare that in mind:)
Just checked the MSDS for both greases and they have a similar temperature range, the only difference is the Aeroshell 6 is good for -40C while the Castrol is OK down to -20C. Top end temp is about the same at 120C - maybe it melted out when the hub was getting hot before I changed the shoes:I
