Back of the garage

It may just be stuck on the baffle.

Nah, it was of Tim's prototypes and he used a universal sender. A new one is being modified by him for me[8D]

Not that I would want to pollute such a thing of beauty with flammable chemicals but can you remind me what the capacity is :I

I've been fiddling again:)
Bonnie's carb was proving to be a bit of a problem, it was fine ticking over and tootling along but any kind of incline or foot to the floor action resulted in spluttering and hesitation[xx(] I had Harvey's old Zenith on the shelf so I tried that but it was worse[V] Now I just happened to have a pair of manifolds modified to take an SU but where was I going to get an 1 3/4" HF44 - there is now a carb shaped hole in the Mini's engine bay[}:)]
Everything went together fine but the K&N was squashed forlornly against the engine bay wall so I had a think. I remembered Datona's filter solution where he used an intake bend of a Peugeot to connect to a length of trunking and that gave me an idea - so off I went to B&Q where a 3" plastic downspout elbow was transformed into the beginnings of my 'induction system':)

After warming with a heat gun the elbow pushed onto the Mini intake bend nicely

I held it on with a big jubilee clip and used the heat gun again to soften the plastic and then tightened the jubilee so it formed a tight seal on the inlet bend.
A short piece of 3" downspout and a bit more heat gun action on the elbow resulted in my first attempt:)

I was quite pleased at first but it started knocking on the engine cover on the way to Tatton Park and fell off where the short piece of pipe pushes onto the elbow:I So think again - Trevor piped his filter in front of the radiator so that's the way I went and ended up with this.

I was only getting just over half throttle with the new set up so I drilled another hole in the accelerator linkage crank for extra leverage, I've almost got full movement at the carb spindle now[^]. The pedal is a little stiffer but nothing my big right foot can't handle:)

I suppose I would have got even more travel at the carb if I'd drilled the new hole a wee bit higher. The turn buckle on the linkage had to be wound in a bit to line the linkage up with the new hole.

Now what shall I do next - overdrive?

Still a stately progression along the highway but revs better and hills she struggled up in third can be taken in top:) She's still got a standard exhaust on so there's room for improvement;)
