"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

In my dreams:I
I think I'll settle for the same exhaust set up I did for Harvey and an OD box - well it's sort of six speed , eight if I was naughty[}:)]

I tried a similar thing with the dogs K&N but mine is on the other side of the engine and the alternator is in the way, I have the same bit of guttering 90 degree bend! It is something I am still looking at though - where did you get the flexi hose that may be the answer for me

The Dog is home....

Good old fleabay:) I got a meter of 3" hose with various bits and pieces in a kit for under a tenner with freepost. It was a very tight squeeze to get it past the radiator and I needed to bend a couple of sharp corners out of the way but I still sort of ripped it in the middle:I luckily what was in was just enough:I There are smaller diameter flexes but you need to go as big as you can.

Hi panky, I need more travel too, was looking at the carb end but you've done the mod on the pedal end have you? So you drilled higher up to get more travel? I know we had a similar conversation before, I'm quite mechanically minded but seem to have a mind blank on this more movement thing :)

Hasta la supervista baby

I did some mods at the carb end on Harvey but I thought I'd give this a go and it worked. I took the bracket off to drill it but you could probably do it in situ.

Summer's Coming

Bonnie has overdrive[8D]
I started stripping the old box out on Wednesday afternoon after I'd dropped the prop off to be shortened and by the end of the day everything was ready to take the loverly 'D' type OD box:p The clutch plate needed swapping as the OD input shaft is coarse splined as opposed to the original fine splined one, the clutch looked virtually new so just the plate was changed (got a good spare for Harvey now:)) but I was most surprised to find that there was no spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft not a trace of it[:0] I'd intended putting a new one in anyway so it just made the job easier but I wondered how long the input shaft bearings would have lasted if I had just run with the old box.
Thursday morning was spent fitting the new box - on my back with Bonnie up un the hydraulic ramps but in the low position which was just the right height to grapple with the hefty lump of metal. Tail of gearbox balanced on my knee and a good old shove up and a wiggle and in it went, I was quite surprised as I'd lined it up with a socket extension:) Everything was bolted up by lunchtime and after confirming that the prop was ready I went to collect it, fitted it and filled with oil by mid afternoon - I spent the rest of the day and most of the next trying to get the exhaust to seal on the down pipe, I've got the scars to prove it:I
After a quick test run to make sure everything worked it was time for the electrics (this is where Bernie comes in). I bought a Humber OD column switch when I was fitting Harvey's overdrive but abandoned the attempt in favour of a gear knob switch when I couldn't get the relay to work but I wanted to have another go on Bonnie and Bernie made up one of his patented relay units for the job[^]. I mounted the switch on the same side as the indicator stalk as it got in the way of the gear stick on the other side.

I made a cowling out of a piece of plastic drain pipe
but need to finish it off around the stalk

I didn't want to drill the dash so Bernie just happened to have this nice little bracket for the warning light:)

Bernie arrived this morning armed with his box of tricks and we set about fitting it, damn that man is good and it was all fitted in short time (after a trip to Halfords to get some spade ends, an electrician without spade ends - what's that all about;)) Anyway is was time for a test run, anxiously changed up from first to second, into third and a flick of the switch produced a sweet slick change into OD - into fourth the another flick resulted in another smooth transition and that lovely reduction in engine revs:D
Bernie's system worked straight out of the box, what can I say - thanks mate[^]

No problem John it was only playing with few wires. It goes part of the way to repaying you for all the help you give me with Mr J :)

Playing with a few wires - just listen to him. Bernie is to electrics what Tim is to welding:)
It was a pleasure working on Mr J[^]

I suspect it's a two relay job, but it was all hidden in a neat box with all the connections fitted to the outside:)

I gave it a good scrub with Autoglym caravan cleaner, got the usual brown gunky crap off it[xx(] Then a good dose of vinyl and rubber cleaner again Autoglym. It's come up quite well:)

I've been thinking about how to finish off the OD stalk cowling to hide the switch body on the steering column. I was in the toilet the other day contemplating - as you do - and I spotted a toilet duck bottle, that might do I thought:) and proceeded to cut it up.

2013-06-20151650.jpg

With a bit of trimming and painting I ended up with this

2013-06-21110723.jpg

A little disc of black vinyl was pushed over the stalk to cover the base of the switch before the cowling (or should I call it a Toilet Duckling:I) was eased into place.

and bu**er me if it doesn't fit - the angle of the neck is perfect:)
