Unless you've got an oil pressure gauge to check the pressure the only way to check the sender it is to change it. Simple job and only cost's a few £££.
Have a sniff of your dipstick  If it smells very strongly of petrol then the diaphragm in the fuel pump could be leaking fuel into the sump and thinning down the oil.

In my Commer's case, the oil light was coming on after a few minutes driving but without the increase in engine rattle you would expect/get with no oil pressure. I changed the sender first, as Panky says dead cheap, and that cured the problem.

Mine suffered from the pressure relief valve clogging up. It's just under the filter housing. Undo it, clean it, move the piston up n down and refit it.

Ok - so numpty questions taken in order...

Martin sells (Oil Pressure Switch - £7.5 E401) - resume that this is teh @dodgeram sender. Can't locate from above from cursor glance. Do i need to be under the van to see it from below.... Will this leak oil as i change? I presume that I do the following in order. Locate. Battery off, Pull out GY wires. Un bolt. (therefore comes out?) Swap in reverse... Reconnect wiring...

From the picture on Page C4 of the maintenance manual - I am guessing that the sender switch is best found from underneath the van?

Martin sells (Oil Pressure Relief Value - £12.5) - but suggestion not needed. I can see this (as per item 5 on page C4) of the maintenance manual. I presume that i have no need to play with filter bypass - item 6 on the same page... In order for this one - I clean area around bolt of gunk (I swear lots as i strip my hands to shreds). I un bolt. Clean the bolt that is removed - again, what amount of oil leakage will there be?? - Sorry @PaulJL - what's the meaning of "move the piston up and down - how do i do this manually... Refit I get....

One possible thought before i go through all this pain, is that the engine was running rich because it's a new carb and may need a fiddle, I had the choke out at the time (full) and on a warm day I'd probably warmed the engine and could have put the choke back in again...

Thoughts on the above, my good and patient friends...

Access to the oil pressure switch is best obtained on your back behind the right hand (Brit drivers) side front wheel. It is just forward of the vertical vent pipe, on the side of the engine. remove anti-clockwise and a drible of oil may weep out but not continuous. Your new one should not need a gasket as it should be a NTP (tapered self sealing) thread, just tighten with a short hand wrench:)

You'll lose some oil, mainly just the filter contents.. the relief valve has a piston in it. You'll see it when you take it out

I fear I shall be recovering the camper to it's mini bus format!!

A hungry (and now feeding) Anwen Faith took her merry time but said hello at 21:26 Sunday 30th Jan. Mummy rocked and both mummy and baby doing well already. 6lb 13 and everything necessary in place (including Welsh lungs)... Already more hair than daddy...

Aww that's fantastic, everyone is looking really well. Congratulations from us all:)
