Alert - ebay fingers at the ready

Its a shame you don't know where they live, or you could have snuck round for a quick peek [}:)]:D[}:)]

hehehehe

The NEW Girlfriend in a Commer

To be honest I think the van looks ok with a good interior. I'm not so bothered about doing the bodywork as I'm quite used to it but I think my main concern is the engine conversion and how a few people have now said to me about difficulties engaging gears.

I think its always a risk buying from ebay but usually you aren't paying much money, on a vehicle its a different matter.

Update.
Have got hold of the vendor again, the van is at a parents place so even though the vendor is on hols thought we might get a look but apparently the parents have gone off on their hols aswel.

Hmmm...getting a feeling about this one.

Is the owner on here sure he was [?]They probably know exactly what they want for him...If chassis good & peaks not bad & you can manage body work it's just the gear change you are worried about I would go for it & get some clever person to re do the gear lever linkages ratios sounds like that is the problem rather than a knackered gearbox.

I know the reserve and we are prepared to go to that, I offered them just over it and they didn't want to take it. As I said bodywork is no problem and anything mechanical we can sort as we do classic commercial restorations in our workshop. I just don't want to pay out a lot for a van and then have a fair amount of work to do to get it tested.

I would be inclined to opt to re-fit an original commer engine but we would have a go at the gear linkages to see if it could be made easier.

I can't believe it £2450! with all that bodywork needed, I did notice that on the description and in the photos the holes around the guttering weren't mentioned, I asked the seller and he said it was pretty bad.

Lets hope whoever bought it doesn't get it home and didn't know about the bodywork. Looking at the photos she looked great but pictures can be flattering.

Perhaps I shouldn't say it here, but I can't help thinking that the person who has won this van is going to be very disappointed with what they've got for their money! The body appears pretty rotten and the engine conversion sounds a little Heath Robinson to say the least! At least the interior is sound :)

I wouldn't be too surprised if this reappears on eBay some time soon!

Thats more than we paid for Smurf and she is in great condition... So thats why they disappeared on holiday, so people would bid blind maybe[?]

Cazz... student commerade!!!!

Somebody is rubbing their hands together then! Sadly maybe not the new owner?

DUKE!

We didn't get good signs from the vendor from the start and when they were adament that we couldn't view the van we made the decision not to go for it. Pretty glad we stuck to that now.

I got more info from the forum than from the vendor so its a big thumbs up for the Commer-aderie!

The views expressed on this forum are the views of the individuals concerned ;)

Apologies, I should have said I got more info from certain members of the forum and that helped me make the decision.

I just don't want to be sued :) I don't moderate what people say generally :)

Hi Church F - Thomas looks interesting but did raise a few eyebrows at the selling price[:0] Maybe the buyer realised he had gone a bit too far ( red wine fueled Saturday night ebay finger:I) could be worth a look but do not pay the final ebay price - way too high. If you are not too familiar with Commers then maybe take a knowledgeable friend who is.

I think thomas needs a new home :D[}:)]:D
Bristol is a long way from biggin & martins :)
If you are happy & can offer him what he needs & you think he will make you happy [?]sounds great [8D]Go get him [}:)] can't remember how much he is now [?] gears/linkeage ? could cause who ever attempts to fix a few swear words,Tim (commeracer)had a mini pick-up (red top engined)with a similar problem, which he radically improved...what ever commer you buy you will almost definately have issues of some kind or another at some point or another so be prepared to have to do some work, worth it hell yes :p :D[}:)]:D
& welcome to the mad house :D[}:)]:D
